Actually, it's called "MRT-2" rather than LRT coz the RS is high capacity and not LRV. It has been called LRT-2 because the O&M is Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).

LRT 1 and 2 got their names from the operator LRTA and not from the type of trains they use. You can check Wikipedia about this. MRT 3 is operated by MRTS.

True that LRT 2 uses wide metro rolling stock, however with only having 4 car configuration per trainset, it is only classifed as "Medium Rail".
