The rules are always going to be different in the morning shift versus the afternoon because all the safety personnel work 9 to 5 lol or 7 to 3 however they do it. And always remember those harnesses aren’t really there for your protection, they’re there for their protection against lawsuits. they don’t give a shit if you fall , they just don’t wanna get sued

You probably got the level 1 for a few different reasons. The first reason is he saw you close your curtain. Nothing wrong with it, but in his mind, you're hiding something, and that just put him off. Then it's how you were responding, like you didn't care, seemed annoyed, was barely complying and answering basic questions. I am NOT defending that cop and I think pulling you over for some tape missing on a mud flap is complete BS! But if you smiled, maybe seemed a bit more... awake? Maybe be a bit more helpful and less annoyed, I bet he would have let you go with a warning and without the inspection. Just sayin.

I genuinely do my pretrip and nitpic on trailer hard ..tires, mud flap and slack adjuster and everything. Then talk to dispatch that I am getting it in shop and ask reschedule the pick-up. I always do this when picking up new trailer instead of feeling rushed about eta. Remember you will have the same trailer for months on so always do thorough pre trip once and while on the road your inspection would just be refilling tire pressure and lights nothing surprise like bad registration or expired inspection.

Not sure if that officer clarified the mud flap issue so I will. If you have reflective tape on a mud flap, you need to have it on both of them. It is one of those All or Nothing issues.
