Still it would’ve been nice if the inauguration was joined by all major political parties, coz whatever be the present issues, this new temple of democracy will remain long after any of us are gone.

Hindi & even Urdu was understood by more people than English. & Nehru in all likelihood was familiar with both these languages . It really doesn't make sense why he chose English over languages inherent to India & that were understood by most Indians Nehru did give his later public speeches in Hindi but just that 1st speech of Independent India was in English

Can't help but wonder what all shall be the other key points one can imagine if an essay on "The Autobiography of the Indian Parliament" was to be a topic today. One thing is for sure - this Parliament building had and what the new Parliament lacks is a Central Hall for Joint Parliament Sessions. That place looked so distinct with its pedestal fans. I believe the new Lok Sabha is expected to double up for this purpose. The words of Atal ji are so true in their essence; Opposition for the sake is what has been what we have seen so many times in recent years.

Nuclear tests were almost done in the last years of PV Narsimharao, if only cleaning of shafts was not picked up by US satellites. There was no reason to ask why do the tests to a later Govt just because it wasn't Congress in power. Also note that in 1991, PV had requested the opposition to support the Economic Reforms and all except the CPI did so keeping petty politics aside and accepting an unpopular set of decisions in foresight of a larger good.
