Wing Chun basics 1. Focusing on the turning stance (juen ma). This video is suitable for Wing Chun beginners and more experienced students alike, detailing the mechanics of this extremely useful footwork rotation.
This is a basic Wing Chun drill anyone can practice at home with no equipment required to develop your stance in motion.

Nice. This is actually the most accurate explanation of the juen ma that I've seen on KZbin

YES!!! Again, great video! I don't have access to a dummy and needed good ways to practice at home. This is perfect. You do so well at answering questions about WC that I've had trouble finding. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Another great video but I have a couple of questions. Is the weight distributed evenly between the feet or is more weight on one foot ? Also how much do we “commit” to a strike with the hips? Are we throwing the hips or is the turn by itself sufficient?

Hi there, thank you for your comment. You raise some good points here. Firstly, when you do the juen ma, your spine should be central to your heels on its vertical axis. In the starting position your weight distribution will be even on both feet (50/50). Next, when you've completed the turn, your weight distribution will change slightly. The reason is due to one leg now having a greater bend than the other. The leg with the greatest bend carries more weight. You will be going from 50/50 weight distribution to roughly 60/40, but this will vary slightly. Example: when you turn to face your right, your left leg will have the greater bend and therefore be carrying more weight than the other. I hope this helps. Please feel free to send me an email, or call if I can be of more help. Warm regards Neil

Hello Nhu Le, I don't personally teach people of your age, but there are many schools that will. Boy, or girl doesn't matter! Most important thing is that you put effort into your training and enjoy the journey! Best regards, Neil
