Pumps don't suck water. They lower the pressure in a pipe. The result is that the weight of the atmosphere can then push the water in the reservoir down and into the low pressure pipe. It is an important destinction. It is the reason there is a limit to how high you can place a pump in relation to the reservoir. It depends on how much atmosphere you have pushing down.

Its a nice video on centrifugal pump. However, my concept is not yet clear on what is the difference between the pump head and system head. Both the pump and system curves have the similar x and y - axes values (i.e. Head vs flow rate), but we get different shapes. Thus, I would highly appreciate if anyone could assist me with understanding this. We tried to plot the pump and system curves with simple experiments, but got stuck in how the system head differs from pump head. I know the pump head is the head generated by the pump while the system head is the head required by the system. We can calculate the system head using equations, but not sure how to calculate pump head. Many thanks in advance!

rancho baba my dear friend you r talking about atmospheric pressure
@RohitChowdhury_sajaysaini7 жыл бұрын
rancho baba have you noticed that all the water tanks are made at such a higher elevation..why???? So that you get hivh pressure

@jasper781387 жыл бұрын
Rohit Chowdhury .....m telling about hydrostatic law not only for atmospheric pressure
@RohitChowdhury_sajaysaini7 жыл бұрын
rancho baba see its very simple. Consider my higher reservoir as a water tank..now water tank is kept at a higher elevation because when water comes out from there through pipes ,it comes out at a high pressure because of the heigt.....now to refill the water in the tank ,you need to transfer water there with the help of pump....thats it
