I was pretty disappointed with Eastern Wonders, but this one is great. Worker placement is a solid mechanism and they used it in some clever ways (I like the multiple workers spaces, with discounts from the VP cards you're gaining). It's also a fantastic mechanism for tying the mechanisms of the different games together - Being able to use a couple WP spots to interact with the other mechanisms is very clean.

Very happy to hear this concludes the trilogy so well. I've held off on buying the 2nd to see how this turned out. Now the question is, are they going to turn out a deluxe set with all 3 games in a year? I could certainly wait if they are. I have plenty of just Spice Road plays itself left in me before I really need anything more advanced or novel.

A good review, but now the real question - at 39.99USD MSRP per game, are the 7 games for $119.97 worth it compared to other $120-ish games out there on the market? (Okay, that doesn't really matter as I do have all three, but I think consumers need to evaluate clever psychological tricks that companies use to make you think "oooh, what a deal" instead of "hmmmm, compared to other games that seems a little pricey for what I'm getting".) Oh, and lets not forget the $3.99 for each of the two _Century: Spice Road_ game, so with those 6 extra cards it brings the total to $127.95 - and that's a lot of money. Maybe if you don't own any of the games and want all three, perhaps they will release a big-box version so you don't have to pay for the bowls and cubes three times over. Then again, they might not ever offer a consolidated version and you'll just have to pay. I guess in the least you can make your own big box and then use the extra 8 bowls as bit bowls and cubes for some print-and-play game.

Same
@martinlarouche44185 жыл бұрын
I thought the same. ... then i played the second title and even though they share mechanism, they don't feel the same at all. So i got it amd one does not replace the other. I even prefer Eastern personally. This third title is also providing a very different feel to it. Much less tense than the previous 2 titles. It's like comparing Caylus to Agricola. They might share some mechanism, but they are really not the same game. The Century titles are like that. They share a common central mechanic, but the rest is completely different.

I really like the idea of a simpler worker placement game-- however, the way that you can bump other players off their spaces by using an additional worker makes me wonder if there's a little too much take-that in the game. We're ok with a little bit of take that, but too much can be too much...
@willrfrench5 жыл бұрын
It’s not take that. If someone bumps your workers you get to use them again. It’s a GOOD thing if you get bumped.

My fam and I have been playing Century Golem edition every day (yay quarantine), so obvs we love it. What really disappoints me here is the theme that Plan B went with: Native American and settlers? Eeeech. Since it's hard for me to disconnect games from our actual, real-life context, I prefer my games without overt white colonialism. (Yeah, I stopped playing Puerto Rico. ) I wish that we, as a gaming community, were more vocal in critiquing themes that perpetuate harmful narratives... but since this game is already on its way to me, I'll give it a go and hope for a Golem reboot down the road. Thanks for all of your reviews, Tom!
