Hate to say it but my 2017 Wasr has a mag well to tight. So I had to file down even surplus mags. I put some magpull furniture on it and it has to wear the wooden piston cover because the plastic Magpul on the gas block lever "don't no proper name"won't even go down without it. I want to smooth out the action because the gun won't go into battery if I am riding the charging handle. And the finish is dog shit with the bayonet lug having rust on it from the factory.

I bought an RAS47, it sat for 3 years before I finally shot it. It jammed every other round. I found out that the feed ramp was cracked so I contacted century arms and asked them what I should do. The response was do you have a receipt for it and I said no. They then told me to send it to them and they would give me a new vska which they did and I put hundreds of rounds through the vska with no problems. Every company will have their bad products but condemning the company for a few mistakes isn't right. I love my vska.

Few months ago I traded in my C39V2 for a Cugir RH10. As far as I know, those and the WASRs are the only Century (imported, not made in house) guns that are worth a shit. At least, thats what it seems to look like.
@terryspalding3765 Жыл бұрын
Yeah ide buy a WASR. I wouldn't run to it lol. But if the price was right ide grab one. Especially a UF version. I've owned about 6 AK's now. 2 of them were Century AK's they manufactured themselves. They were made of cast parts and as I learned more about AK's I got rid of them. I bought a Riley after that and while it shot good, had a good weight to it, and wasn't toooo bad, the finish on the gun I found to be sub par for the money. It looked great at first but the thing took rust like nobodies business. Out of all my guns it was the only one I couldn't keep under control. Even with barricade. Every time I picked it up it would be absolutely dusted with rust while all my other guns right next to it are clean as a whistle looking nice. So I got rid of that one too and banned Riley from future AK purchases after they gave me no response online. Then I got into my Yugo's. Bought a M70. Loved it. Still one of my favorite rifles. Loved it so much I got another. Then I got a M90 too. Love the yugo guns. Next ill start looking into polish guns. Probably will buy a WBP Jack 556 than maybe a FB Radom in 7.62x39 After that I MIGHT look at building a Romanian collection.

My first AK was a WASR. I've ran well over 7K rounds trough it without a single malfunction or stoppage while feeding it steel cased ammo (primarily TULA). The WASR is a little rough around the edges, but if you find one that meets the criteria of a well assembled AKM, you'll have yourself a solid, rugged rifle. Side Note - The trigger assembly in my WASR is all out of whack right now. Decided to remove the hammer and a couple other accompanying parts from the gun because the pin that runs through the hammer became loose and thats no bueno. Besides the above issue, which can hopefully be resolved (someone help me out here ?), I've had a great experience with the WASR.

Old century's seem to be good. My wasr10 was packed with cosmoline and bought right after the Clinton ban died in 04. My ak74 sport is still popping them off as well and its damn accurate and I also picked up a old ass draco that is based on an AMD-65 and has a thicker reciever that wasnt made by century it was made my some company with D.C. in its name that from what I remember later became nodak-spud. It doesnt even say draco on it, just says AK47 pistol. It's a fucking great build compared to all these new joke dracos. When I got my wasr it came with 3or4 30rnd steel mags, bayonet, wirecutter sheath and frog, cleaning kit pill in the stock, metal oil bottle, an old ass leather sling and a leather 4 mag pouch that looked like it had been in the desert for 60 years. It was a grand total of 350$ out the door and the front sight is perfectly straight up. Maybe they are making new guns to be junk. You wont notice it while plinking but maybe they make them to break if you ever actually had to really use it. I am a gunsmith and dealer but I havent had any of these new junk guns come in because most people send them back or never use them to the point of breakage. I know I dont have to worry about my converted saiga 12 screwing up like these new over priced junk AKs. Just don't buy cheap shit and you should be good. I have a few old century guns and they work great. The h&k93 clone, the c93 is a damn good build but I wouldn't replace my ptr91 with a c308 though. I'd also trust my vector v53 pistol over the c93 rifle. Century did make a c93 pistol but I havent ever seen one in real life anywhere. I barely ever saw them advertised until after they were discontinued.

I´ve heard Century uses cast steel for the bolt and locking surfaces. Castings for a safety-critical component on a battle rifle are a joke, and a bad one at that. Amateur night at Century Arms, stay away!
@cdawson1986007 жыл бұрын
Rafael Lastra com wow, casted bolts?! I see some shattered bolts in the future.
@rafaellastracom64117 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. Can you design a rifle with castings for ballistic tolerant components? Yes, by overbuilding the crap out of it. The AK was not designed to be built with castings, it was designed to use properly heat treated wrought/forged steel. Guys, that has to be your first question, are the bolt and locking surfaces cast? If the answer is yes, move on to another maker. Castings are a NO-GO.
@ChoppyWaterWhaleWave7 жыл бұрын
Casting can be done well but it needs to be either inspected with X-Rays or tested. BMW used for its race cars only 1950s cast engines because the new ones were not proven. They went to a junk yard and picked all the rusted engines that were beat the crap out and not broken. In the end the process of good casting is more costly than forged. No way the cheap casting of Century is chosen that way.
@rafaellastracom64117 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Casting is a legitimite process but it must be designed as such and controlled as you mention. The Century actions are the same dimensions as the forged units, that right there is a red flag. Ruger does casting right which is why their revolvers, for instance, have more meat on them. The fracture toughness of castings is usually around 50-60% of wrought steel and that must be taken into consideration at the design stage. Like I said, amateur night at Century. BTW Happy New Year to all.
@hardtarget23596 жыл бұрын
The carrier is cast the bolt is NOT cast. The bolt is machined out of 5150. Although I do agree their rifles are not up to par with traditional ak materials.

I apologize for my lack of knowledge on AK manufacturing history by importers, but I purchased a couple Century WASRs just after the AR ban lifted. They are built on Romanian parts kits. Are these trunnion issues you are describing here applicable to them as well? I probably only have 2k rounds through each of them. Zero malfunctions. ''Century AKs fail...over...over...'' is a blanket statement. It implies that every AK they make or have made is junk. Do you stand by that blanket statement? Thanks.
@ryusukelopez53633 жыл бұрын
Century AK refers to AKs built by Century themselves and must be avoided . Your WASRs are imported by Century but built in Romania in Cugir factory and known to be safe and serviceable. When you call them 'parts kis ' you mean that you have dated trunnions from the 60s 70s 80s ? If so you have WASRs 10/63 and they are excellent/cool/legit pieces of equipment ! Enjoy them !

EveryGunLawisanInfringement I still have the stock trigger in my Mak 90. It's super light but, the travel is long. The PSAK-47 GB2 I have has a Red star arms fire control group & FCG retaining plate in it. Both triggers are freakin awesome. The RSA FCG is 3.5 LBS. Short & crisp.
@mr_fnh7 жыл бұрын
EveryGunLawisanInfringement I forgot to add. When I looked into having my Mak barrel threaded. I was told by one Gunsmith they'd need to press out my barrel. Chop it down to 14.5" in order to thread it. Weld my brake on & press the barrel back in place. Another shop told me they'd just replace the barrel with a US made threaded barrel instead. I'm not sure if any of them knew what they were talking about. In the end I found an aftermarket muzzle brake on EBay from a long defunct company that made brakes for the Mak's around the 90's. My buddy with a lathe had to measure my barrel's OD & cut the brake's ID to fit the barrel. The brake is held in place with set screws. Looks horrible but its absolutely effective. I was told it was the loudest & most concussive brake at the AK class I attended at Regular Guy training. Also Regular Guy has a Mak 90 review that's worth a watch if you haven't seen it at least a dozen times already.

Ah, the Ras47, the pipe bomb, mine is a VSKA, slightly improved but I only feed it brass. When I was shooting steel case that weren't lacquered I would spray drylube on them before loading mags and they cycled great. Mine is very accurate hitting 6in at 300yds, coming up on 6k rounds so Im sure there will be problems soon.

I love my WASR-10. You guys can rip on Century and rightly so but the WASR-10 isnt in the same league with RAS-47 and PAP SMEARS. Its a well made hard charging accurate shooting SOB.

Yeah I remember Rob Ski had a RAS where the barrel pin was so loose that it could be pushed side to side by hand. So wouldn't be surprised if some of these do not even have an interference fit on the barrel and the chamber is able to lengthen easily by way of gradually pushing the barrel forward enough to change headspace. If your Yugo has a Tapco G2, throw it out. The G2 will wear away at the carrier tail in any kind of AK it's installed in, not just Yugos. While we're trashing Century here I have found that their RAK-1 trigger group is pretty damn good. Maybe the only good thing to have come out of their US-made AK attempt. I've replaced all of my G2s with it and have had no issues.

@@sgt_malice4521 unlike making an AR which just needs correct CNC tolerances and you can just slap parts together, each AK is essentially handmade requiring absolutely perfect riveting for the front trunnion, welding the lower rails, barrel pinning, etc. We haven't perfected the process for making AKs, unlike the Russians that have done it for decades.

The RAS/C39 I'm not surprised by. People have seen those fail all the time. The Zastava failing is a little odd, that's an actual Combloc-manufactured rifle. What the hell happened to it? Also, on American made AKs, can we get some more info on PSA AKs and Riley Defense rifles? They both seem to be doing alright, but not a ton of info is available.

My Ras47 hasnt given me any issues... I DO think people torture these guns under extreme circumstances. Why would you shoot 1500 rounds consecutively out of a rifle? WHAT ENGAGEMENT will you shoot that many consecutive rounds through your gun? They even tell guys in the armed forces to shoot 3-9 round bursts..or else it will melt the barrel. I've seen guys pour sand in their rifles, round their pickup trucks over it....dragging it on the back of their trucks on a chain for a half mile. Then when the gun malfunctions..."its a sh*t rifle!!"

Bought mine new, and had high hopes for it. Smooth action, good looking, and very friendly to shoot. Then, to my horror, I started seeing reviews popping up about the bomb-in-the-making, that is the C392. 3500 rounds into it, it failed the no-go, and the field gauge. What was even more anger inducing, was a piece of the rail on the receiver that the carrier rides on, has a massive chip in it. Frustrated as fuck, I sell it and manage to pick up a SAM7SF. Never looked back.

A few years back you did a review on one of Century's original C39 rifles (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnbVZ2hoirB_edU) and said it was pretty much good to go despite some minor issues. Do you think their quality has worsened or that perhaps you didn't have enough rounds through the gun for these issues to come to light?

Chris, You have proven via experience that the product is non reliable garbage and hopefully every one who follows this channel and trains with you. heeds your warning. I would ask you to change one small part of your pitch of trying to help people out. Please stop telling current owners to sell their rifles, some other non suspecting recipient will end up with the same garbage. Seems some of the American made triggers (Century, ALG) have a substantial enough difference in material hardness and hammer profile to cause issues like the mushrooming of dude's bolt carrier tail. Happened to my and a friend's WASRs too. Always use a combloc trigger group.
