A few of times match 1 where a move with a natural combo like dancing blade or Sheik's jab combo were countered by a spotdodge, but if you just react and do the second hit, you can potentially hit with the second one. The players came into the match aware it's traditionally pretty grab heavy, as shown by spotdodges after low lag moves and to escape platform techchases and rolls out from things like Sheik's aerial needles. A lot of the grab opportunities earlier on came from shield grabs, including The Moon's last two stocks of game 1. The next game finely transitions to the more movement focused meta of modern Melee with Shroomed whiffing a fair, dashing out and back in to grab The Moon, and using retreating shield drops to escape pressure on platforms. The next few stocks of game 2 would be marked by more of an aerial type of game, Moon's nairs vs Shroomed's fairs and bairs. The folly of two hitters like Marth's nair in this sort of war was exposed during the second stock. Nair might have caught Sheik but jumping forward as Sheik was also approaching Marth let Shroomed land on the ground unmolested, a quick reminder of the importance of spacing for Marth. Right before this, we see quick sequence of many unsafe options by both players, but only one of them gets the punishes for them. Shroomed wavedashes forward to jab when Moon is perfectly capable of throwing out a fair, and goes for jab grab when Marth is under 10 percent, and the Moon tried to wavedash in when Sheik was standing still, only to get jabbed. Afterward? Moon gets a tipper, but fails to close out the stock, but he starts bringing back the game using good ground movement to bait out and punish the pre-emptive options we'd seen a all game. In game three, we see more equal participation in the non-committal movement game by both players, and a safe spacing to counter immediate attacks, but fewer strong punishes when they were avoided. Aerials were done fading back and decelerated to avoid shield grabs and nullify spotdodge timings. The Moon managed to not only get away with, but win exchanges with the classic "panic" option to roll to center stage, but he did it before any kind of pressure was exerted. Overall, this set shows the importance of good spacing and timing, but both players could have done more to anticipate some escape attempts. Shroomed showed a bit more classical situational recognition and familiarity (what's the next step?), while The Moon showed more of a gravitation towards recognizing when one can and can not act, and picking actions that leave the most options open.
