This has to be one of THE IF NOT THE BEST AND MOST INTERESTING VIDEO you have ever done! I absolutely LOVE THIS CONTENT!! SO MUCH RESPECT FOR THE PAINSTAKING EFFORTS YOU GIVE TO MAKE YOUR CHANNEL SHINE😉 EXCELLENT WORK! EXCITED TO SEE THE RESULTS! I OWN 3 OF THESE PRODUCTS. I RECENTLY PUT A 2ND LAYER OF SONAX ON MY CAR AFTER A WEEK AND IT PERFORMED WAY WAY WAY BETTER IN THE HYDROPHOBIC PROPERTIES PART AS OPPOSED TO 1 LAYER! THE HYDROPHOBIC PROPERTIES WERE EXACTLY LIKE YOURS ON THE BLACK HOOD which I absolutely loved!

I don't know how I missed this one yesterday. So weird to think think I'm excited to watch videos of a hood being washed for 2 years, but I am haha. Even the dog knows it's interesting. It's good to have a hood with chips and scratches because a lot of us have those. It's good to see how the product protects them and the bare metal. I really like how you did this with 1-5 layers too.

Such a bad-ass test. I’ve done this to some extent, albeit for my own disorder/interest. I think multiple coatings of something like Fusso absolutely works, but at the expense of gloss. Also, as your outdoor tests show, it’s really a matter of how long crap like pollen is allowed to fester in any protection. If you put two coats of Collinite Fleetwax/915 on a garage queen…hang it up. It’s good forever. 😂

Thanks Scott! This is going to be a really interesting test. I'm just a DIY amateur and since 2018 have been using Meguires Hybrid Ceramic Spray. For my best results, I wash as best I can then do 1 layer dry application, 1 layer wet application and a final layer of their spray on and rinse application. I get good shine and beading that lasts about a year. Throughout the year I do occasional quick spray washes. I'm in New England and do not have a garage to park in.

Fantastic! This is the best of the best of videos. Questions are answered. For a pro detailer, it’s the equation of protection vs your pocket vs your reputation that counts. How many times you add a layer just to get a bit longer on but was it worth the 1 hour wait vs using it to make more money. This is a question that NONE has answered till now! Good man Scott!

This is going to be an interesting test. I suspect the increased removal difficulty would have diminished if the cure time was extended on final layers. My best guess is that the solvents haven't flashed enough and the bottom layers were only partially cured, causing a grabby feeling. I'm thinking much the way paint will soften and lift if recoat windows are too short. With that said, I'm hoping the lower layers still remained bonded and were not leveled off with the final layers.

I’m not making this up- I put Griots…on top of Fusso…on silver-plated horns for a marching band. All I can tell you is that products like Fusso and Collinite will always be in my arsenal, and Griots is simply too affordable not to throw-on anything as a topper. The shine it creates is really different. But that’s polished metal. Two coats of Fusso on any dark car is kind of like enjoying pain. You better really want it and hope you’re better for it after. Separate but still noteworthy- my only frustration with ceramic spray products is the spotting that dried liquids (water on cars, sweat on instruments) leave on the surface. Sure a QD can fix that, but unless there’s serious sheeting going on it’s not a good look after a rain session. That reason alone is what keeps me using tin-paste sealants.

I’ve done 1 layer of griots on my mother in-laws car and 2 on my wife’s car, I feel like my wife’s car faired better than my mother in-law’s. My wife’s coating (done in October) lasted through New England winter with no problem and I just reapplied a single coat this past weekend. My mother in-laws (applied within 2 weeks from my wife’s initially) I’d say lost its hydrophobic-ness about 2 months ago

I've layered Fuso back when I lived in North Dakota due to the aggressive chemicals they use to spray the roads in winter. I never noticed any difference, and I let it cure over night in the garage. I applied it as lightly as I possibily could while still getting it on the paint. Never had an issue taking it off after it sat over night (granted it was normally the start of winter when I applied so cool). Mostly just wanted to give it time to fully cure in suboptimal temps. Never noticed any difference with it be 1 or 2 coats, just felt it increased the likelihood I didn't miss a spot by accident. I would get about 9 months before I felt I had nothing left too it. --- Also I don't really care about product thickness, but once it cures could you let us know if you could feel any difference over the multiple layers?
@Centaur008
@Centaur008 2 жыл бұрын
Really eager to see the results. I predict the 2-3 layers may fare better than the 4-5; my assumption is that these chemicals have a carrier/solvent that when applied again it softens but doesn't completely remove the previous layer(s), I feel like on the 5th layer more material was removed than what may have been applied, hence the gum-up.

I have a cheap amazon thickness meter that "supposedly" reads to the nearest tenth of a micron, but on the "calibration foil" it will literally read 5 different readings on the same (known thickness) foil, so this is why I don't use it. The elcometer I use - they make a higher accuracy one, but I can't justify the price of it - this one is already pretty expensive and is used in our shop just to identify thin areas or previous paintwork on client vehicles)

I have been using Griots 3in1 for a couple of years. Not knowing anything about this except what I have learned from your channel I have put quite a few coats on over the year. If I had to guess perhaps 7 to 10. Car still shines like a diamond in a goats butt at the county fair. However, the car doesn't get exposed to a lot of adverse weather but I do live at high altitude so it gets its share of UV. What should I be looking for regarding deterioration?
@ScottHD
@ScottHD 2 жыл бұрын
Painters will tell you "UV" damage is when the clear coat has actually failed, so essentially it is trying to prolong the useful life of the clear coat. As long as it's hydrophobic, you are likely still good. (and your clear coat isn't failing).

This is a classic example of BS ambiguous claims to take advantage of an ignorant public to sell product. GG 3-in-1 Wax isn't a coating - it is a spray sealant. Translation: it doesn't actually truly cure (no cross-link), so whether you wait an hour, or 12, or 24, you are still going to remove the majority of whatever you applied before with "like dissolves like" principal. The only time you get any type of truly additive layering (ESPECIALLY beyond a second coat) is with a cross-linking cure, and even then you will run into challenges because a proper coating will reject additional layers except for a very narrow window (and even then it is not 1+1). That's my 2 cents, anyway ;)

Here’s a question you probably haven’t heard before, if you off set your pad on the buffer wouldn’t it do the same thing as a 15 or 22 mm throw buffer?
@ScottHD
@ScottHD 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe? I guess I see your point in doing that.
@Centaur008
@Centaur008 2 жыл бұрын
If when you say buffer and throw buffer you mean Rotary vs DA then, No it wouldn't at all. The center-most part of the pad (unless we are talking about a ridiculous amount of offset) is still moving 100% of the pad material as a dot around a circle regardless of the pad being perfectly centered or offset; the outer area is not covering 100% of the dot around the circle well simply because it's offset ( ._.) However a DA polisher or buffer is a "circle going around a circle" rather than a point around a circle. If you however meant DA centered pad vs DA with offset pad, the latter is not recommended as it would create vibrations; the bigger the throw the bigger the little circles go around the circle/orbit.

When I use Griots 3 in 1 always apply two coats, waiting a day to apply the second coat. Depending on how vehicle cared for, up to a year. If not properly maintained, maybe 6 months? I need a recommendation on a tire coating?
@ScottHD
@ScottHD 2 жыл бұрын
Check out dura coating for tire coating. I did a very extensive test on about 50 products a year or two ago - Dura Coating and Lone Star tire coating were the two that outshined (pun intended) the competition.

I asked many times and will still ask, do you know when your going to test for hard water etchings on the ceramic coatings?
@ScottHD

I'm planning on doing something this summer. I've been researching on how it is actually lab tested and the various types of tests and what chemicals they are using. I know the real world is how it needs to be tested though!

@@ScottHD yes please, we need real world tests instead of how they are made. If you can do a 42 way testing it would be so awesome to see that. I believe you can do it on the existing panels you have, just spray hard water on them and test them, i dont think it's hard

I found a hard water deposit that was building up over the winter. I soaked it with WD-40 and lightly rubbed on it and it came off after the 2nd application. 👍

@@tedroesch9133 i get what you mean but it's more than just using something to wipe it off. A physical experiment would be great to see how the ceramic coatings react

I am a novice in detailing, what are the RPMs you use on each of the detail 3 stages, i.e., compounding, polishing and wax application?
@ScottHD
@ScottHD 2 жыл бұрын
Heavy cutting you can use speed 5-6, then back it down slightly making a second pass. Finish polishing it's on a 3 almost always.
