This is what I assume some professional detailers use when I ask what coating they use, and they answer along the lines of "propriety coating that only our company has"

Detailer here. This comment has me dying. Lol. But I'm finally starting my own business but I always got in arguments with owners at other places I worked at about this exact thing. They kept saying "we use it because of cost" my response was always "then charge more!" People really will pay more for high quality results because our cars are OUR imagine. Not to mention lots of people own certain cars because of their job and how it looks as a professional. They don't want to come back in a year mad after it all went to shit. I've seen it too many times.

There’s obviously no “miracle product”. Especially when all these companies have multiple products in their inventories. A product for every part on the car. We probably spend more on finish protection products than ever before. Nowadays the clear coat is what’s protecting the paint and the products out there do only one job and that’s to prolong the life of the clear coat. In the old days there were perhaps 10 products at the auto shop…now there’s 10,000. I think we need to find a product that fills the bill for many of us. One that we can just use and not worry that we’re going to compromise our “coating”. Auto finishes coming from the manufacturer are the best ever been…..so let’s not get crazy!

it looks like jet actually had the best hydrophobic properties. it doesn't even sheet, water just flat out won't stick. from gsls to jet there is just a straight line of no water on jet side, with all the water pooling from hkt toward gsls and still sheeting off while jet is already bare. nice!

Forty years or so has proven that when it comes to automotive cleaning / detailing products, you really do pay for what you get! 29 bucks here in the US for a 4-6 months supply. That’s a steal and honestly it’s affordable. Not going to lie, I skimp in certain areas of car cleaning such as interior cleaner/protectant because a lot of them are adequate, and they are only exposed to UV rays being inside the cabin, and on air fresheners because they’re just air fresheners. But I’m forsure adding this to my car deep cleaning routine for the exterior

I’m sure you need to justify a $1,000 ceramic job, at minimum. This shit is so easy to apply , more customers need to understand that so they’re not getting ass raped by detainers who are charging so much money. A local company was charging $5299 for an entire car for 3 costs of ceramic and some $400 clear wrap. Lol

@@MH-wm6df That's crazy. I only sell things I have already tested as much as I can. Ceramic is one of those things that is now a buzz word. Everything has "Ceramic" in it and people are getting false claims and misinformation about it. Makes it hard to sell when some car detailers are selling a "ceramic coating" for $300 and you find it's nothing more than a quick spray they bought at their local auto parts store.

Good video Sandro. Once the first panel was outside, you could see the dramatic difference between the products to how dark they were, with Nova Jet leaving the others well behind. Brian from Apex Detail also uses similar if not the same gloss meter in his videos, and always takes a reading before and after to show the difference in data, as your eye cannot provide that information to others, except via the camera. I would think it would be the Novice who may buy these Amazon ceramic coatings, where a person at a Beginners level of detailing would know of the reputable brands, but may use Amazon to purchase a reputable brand at a lower cost. Cheers, Ozz

U need on the left and right side of the glass a none coated area, so every coating has the same condition. The right coating gets water from 10 o’clock so it drops the water right on the Earth. Obviously the right coating is the best but what would happen if there’s no coated area at the edge. And: the other middle ones have to run the water downwards.

Any Si02 based coatings Achilles Heel is Water Spots. Out here where I live? In the SoCal Low Deserts with temps on average 115F and with monsoons that come by really show how these coatings fail. I am not talking about just these mentioned, I have never used these, I have used other brands from CarPro ect. When you combine extreme heat, and rain, then back to extreme heat all within a 30 minute time span these coatings create water spots that are so bad you literally have to compound your entire vehicle. Yes, you can put this or that on top of the coating but defeats the whole sales pitch for the coatings then doesn't it? You say coating in a sentence at a car show around here they all will roll their eyes at you. I do feel coatings have a place in the detail arsenal but I do feel they are overhyped and over priced for what they are. Keep in mind Si02 runs about $3 a pound and there is only fractions of that in your $70 bottle of your nanocoating. So what does work well in these extreme conditions? Well, I have found that carbonized polymers like CarPro Gliss work reasonable well, MUCH better than Si02 as a stand alone. So much so, I would skip the coating all together and just use Gliss. You will lose the abrasion resistance, but you won't have nearly the water spot issues. Also, Polyamino silicones work very well. Duragloss 111 and 105 come to mind. Side by side they worked so well vs a nano coating though do need to be applied more frequently. So its all a give and take. People will argue left and right, but I have seen it first hand with my own eyes, with my own cars. Just trying to pass the info along. Take it from it whatever you like. 😎

Have you tried Cquartz SiC? It's supposed to be more resistant to water spots and slicker than Gliss.
@eppyz
@eppyz Жыл бұрын
@@COC785 no tried other Si02 based products and they water spot way to easily. Imagine a thunderstorm then 110F heat on your coated vehicle? You basically have to compound the whole vehicle. Have had much better luck using a polyamino silicone base sealant just works for my area and application. Si02 isn't the greatest in some applications and areas.

21:50 chemical resistance isnt everything. in real life paint isnt really exposed to chemicals all that much. there are some coatings (TW seal and shine) which have superb chemical resistance but no abrasion resistance - they dont actually last that long in real world driving conditions but seem to last infinitly long in a lab.

Great video mate! Just in nick of time as I was contemplating buying one of these coatings last 3 weeks been thinking on it humming and arring as to whether they're shite or actually like the proper stuff but factory direct or something rebranded. Only thing I would say is I WISH you had done en against a proper ceramic coating and/or graphene coating for comparison to see if they even hold up as that would be interesting to see whether they even hold up like they claim. Having had a ceramic coating when they first came out when I bought a brand new BMW back in 2007 I paid quite a bit extra to have the paint ceramic coated. Not sure how long it lasted tbh, but I'd think not as long as it was supposed to like 2 years or something like it was supposed to. Anyway good video maybe you could do a comparison between the Top brands ceramics and graphene mate? Like Autoglym, Turtle Wax, and a few of the other Top brands to see how they perform side by side.. Thanks from London England 👍💪😎

Jet does have good hydrophobic properties but it's not all about how hydrophobic the product is, as it can bead the water and leave water spots. Too much beading can leave a ton of water spots on your car. sheeting is important as well as it keeps the water in a single large bond and drains the water off the surface uniformly leaving no water spots when dry.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Products that sheet or have hydrophilic behaviour tend to creat water pool marks or etchings that look like wavy outlines on the horizontal panels of cars where the water pools and slowly sheets. They take much longer to dry and gather far more water mineral deposits that are far more aggressive in etching into and destroying clear coat. Yes, water spots are very annoying but rarely eat right through clear coat, water pooling etching however eat right through clear coat often. Have a look at some clear coat failure images online, it’s always water pooling etchings, and almost never water spot etchings that actually destroy car paint.
@josephberg2329
@josephberg2329 3 жыл бұрын
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing I believe you need a good balance of both. you say the damage you see is from sheeting, though id argue that the car didn't have any form of product on it to help sheet correctly nor bead correctly, so it just pools and doesn't bond and sheet off as a whole. water spots over time can eat the clear coat just as much as water pooling if not cared for. the reason you may not see it very often is that people that tend to use products on their car use it because they care about their car and also don't like the water spots they leave so they tend to get wiped or washed off often. proper sheeting will leave the car dry with no form of water trace. too much beading will leave water deposits and traces of minerals on the surface when dried.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely I agree that a lack of care and protection is always going to be the main culprit, but water sheeting as apposed to water beading is still the cause. So I do still disagree that sheeting is a better alternative when it comes to more severe and larger mineral etchings and that a paint protection product that sheets somehow does it as to avoid this issue on horizontal panels, especially where there’s a water collection point like on many boot lids, water channels on roof and recesses on bonnets. I guess the great thing is that we have plenty of options these days and we also have different experiences with products so we can all make the best decision for ourselves.

I have no clue about ceramic coatings just that they can cost a lot... I'm looking at using something on my caravan. Think it might be some sort of spray liquid

Sandro great job as always, totally thorough and informative. Can you answer a question for me, are you able to ceramic coat a work vehicle that has decals on it. Have you ever put car pro quartz on decals.

Also am curious what type of mask are you wearing while applying any kind of coating? Some of these coatings have tons of VOC's in them and are not healthy to inhale. Do you know of any type of VOC free coatings out there for those that are sensitive to the VOC's in these products? Just for people to know that are interested in trying to do a coating themselves and want to give it a go.

Great presentation to help with a proper evaluation of these products. Towards the end though I believe you may gotten a bit too philosophical regarding the costly research that top notch brands have gone through (point well taken nonetheless). I DON'T WANT TO $PEND TOO MUCH if you know what I mean 😉 so many folks like me will accept the nondurability of these products just as long as they're good enough to last between 3 - 5 wash cycles and still remain affordable. Thanks again for the video as I found it very helpful! 👍

great review Sandro :) what you would preffer nova jet or gyeon can coat in durability and overall performance? also the towels from the aplication of nova jet should not be reused in paint like ceramic coats?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
I’d expect Can coat to last longer as it is a true ceramic coating rather than a spray sealant/coating like Lustre, other characteristics are harder to compare without doing a side by side test but I’d expect Lustre to perhaps look and feel a little nicer, and yes you can reuse the towels, but they will over time start to become hydrophobic as is the case with most spray sealants
