Worth noting - 9.9 times of out 10, riders can throw these in WITHOUT new rotors or ANY "prep" and hit the trail (IF your rotors are within the proper wear-limit which should be stamped on the rotor). Bed-in time is almost immediate as well. Dan mentioned prepping / sanding the rotors - this is always a good idea, but not necessary UNLESS you get noise out of our brake pads. And Dan - we need to see if Pottery Barn would be interested in stocking these - great idea.

I bought a set of these and have only been on them for 2 rides, but these are Squamish, BC rides so quite rowdy where a lot of braking, especially modulation is required and the difference was very noticeable. These brake pads performed so much better than the mfg brake pads. I still have a few rides to test them on, but so far I would highly recommend these brake pads.

I’ve been using koolstop pads for a long time as a good aggressive yet quiet pad. Nice to see another option but really need to see someone do a real pad comparison because there are a lot of good alternatives to stock out there now but no one has done a real review. I've been buying Ali Express brake pads for $2.50 aud each, they are metallic compound, kevlar and copper inbeded and aluminium backed. Ive tested them and they are perfect even under sustained braking. Ive always had problems with sram metallic pads, shimanos are excellent but the sram pads im always having issues with them never getting the full life out of the pads, they glaze over usually about half way into their life.

@@FanatikBikeCo Its scary cheap! Thats why they shouldn't be suggested. I have no idea if they will wear quick or could even become unbonded with backing plate hahaha. Ive only used them on the rear until ive tested long term. At least if you buy branded products the testing has already been done. These ceramic pads seem to be a better option then sram.

@@KurtisPape bonjour bro. No hate but Ive been using set of metalic sram pads F and R for over 14 MONTHS NOW. And Yes I RIDE EVERY DAY. They are near their death tho already ordered new ones when that does happen. I also find they glaze but thats pretty easy to clean 🤣. I'm super happy with the performance and all so yes Im sticking with OE pads.
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 3 жыл бұрын
@@KurtisPape I've used them a bit after putting them on for this video, they are legit! The power seems a little more usable (in terms of modulation) than the metallic ones, and they have sort of a "softer" feel. Reminiscent of organic, but with max power like metallic pads. The biggest difference though, and my favorite, is that they are just way less noisy when wet, which is lovely. And yes, as a bike shop I don't think we'll be reselling Ali Express pads to our customers, just to ensure a quality experience. It is cool to know about though, so I'm glad you shared. As a broke 20 year old I would have absolutely given those a try! Cheers - Dan at Fanatik

@@antoanangelov5672 My road bike ive had for 4 years, I swapped from resin to metallic after 1 year on my shimano brakes. 3 years later of only riding mountains and thrashing the brakes, they haven't even worn down. But sram guide pads I clean them with sand paper, disk brake cleaner, swap rotors etc and always my 2 piston road brakes 140mm rotors are more powerful than 200mm 4 piston sram. Anyway I'm on cheap pads and ive finally got the power I want

I have tried those pads in the front wheel and are way more noisier than metallic pads braking power is amazing but i am not sure if id be safe with those pads considering getting metallics for the front too. Maybe i need to replace to bigger rotors for steeper hills, i think this pads are great but they probably wear more the rotors.

@mtxbraking

We have lots of gravel riders using them. One customer I can think of said the same thing - he would ride with buddies and on their longest 4k descent, his brakes used to start howling from the heat exhaustion with the OE pads, but our Red Labels were quiet and consistent throughout the descent once he switched over. But yeah - its embarrassing to be howling everywhere you go.

That would be the right way to do it, for sure, and it sounds like Kevin from MTX is interested in making it happen. My own primary concern for this particular video was how much noise they made vs metallic pad compounds, b/c it's such a common thing in the oftentimes wet riding conditions around here. Like you said, we definitely didn't control all our variables, but even so the difference was significant. Thanks for watching! Dan at Fanatik

@@antoanangelov5672 Our primary focus was performance - power, yes, but delivery and progression of the power delivery (its similar to testing an engine on a dyno - it may make incredible power, but it needs to be usable too).
