Officially trained IWC watchmaker here. I see metal transfers on nearly all ceramic cases that come in. The cool thing is that you can get rid of the marks using an art pen eraser (the Faber Castel works the best, and I keep one in my bench).

To my eyes, IWC makes the most beautiful dials in the world, with numerals too because I struggle to tell time without them. Great video!

Awesome video. I've wondered many times why I see these ceramic cases with marks all over them, making them look like a much cheaper PVD/DLC coating.

as somebody who works with ceramics, I can tell you that ceramic does indeed scratch. it can be scratched by other ceramics like a porcelain cup, a porcelain sink, ceramic tiles and many more

I used a pencil eraser to remove scratches from my Pelagos titanium case. I didn't realize it worked on ceramic, too.

The Top Gun is beautiful, however I chose an older (NOS) PVD coated black on black Oris Big Crown ProPilot Big Date. The Top Gun I was considering had a few scratches on it that sadly turned me off of the watch. I absolutely love the Oris. Right after my purchase I took it straight out into the field and treated it like a Timex - flawless.

I LOVE ceramic watches. My ceramic watches all look brand new even after years of wear. Are they bulletproof? No, but most things you would do to a ceramic watch will not affect it.

Thanks for the details on ceramic and scratches. Is it the same for ceratanium or is that different to pure ceramic for scratches??

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but tactical or tool watches should not cost thousands
@polygoncoco2 ай бұрын
It’s not unpopular- this is why g-shocks rule. All these luxury “tool” watches are just marketing nonsense to sell jewellery to men who want to cosplay as action man

My monkey brain wants shiny metal. I think you made the right choice. Great review as always
@WaterJake2 ай бұрын
Really interesting. I wonder if the metal deposit issue applies to IWC's ceratanium. I've been eyeing up their ceratanium pilot chronograph but have seen the same issue with "scratches" in pre-owned models too. If it can be removed easily, that would be great, but if the scratches end up permanent, that's tough to swallow for $10,000. I've also seen it claimed to be an issue with contact during the firing process that creates the material, but that's a little beyond my expertise!

Great video! Nice looking watch, however, IWC never seems to get the date window placement right…always pushed too far into the dial which would suggest they need a smaller case or bigger movement.
@mahtabs73652 ай бұрын
Mark 20 is great because you get a bracelet and it’s a little bit more prominent. But the top gun is my choice because it is the most subdued watch ever. It doesn’t attract attention at all but from a functional standpoint, it’s super legible and very stealthy (stealth wealth and stealth military ;) ). Make sure to opt for the -06 version because you get more power reserve and the easx. I have the 01 which is great but doesn’t have those extras.

Love my ceramic zenith pilot, after a year it still looks brand new. If I ever hit it enough to crack the case it’s insured and such a smack would mangle a steel case too.
@markanderson19742 ай бұрын
Wrong. A friend of mine who works on C17`s in Abu Dhabi dropped his and it smashed into several pieces. Steel does`nt.
@wheelsandwatches2 ай бұрын
@ no steel doesn’t bit the case would be very badly damaged and likely need a new case. If no new case you would be living with a badly damaged one.
