From Wikipedia
Featuring a standard V8 engine, body-on-frame design, rear-wheel drive and large exterior and interior dimensions,[2] the Town Car was based on the Ford Panther platform. This gave it powertrain and suspension commonality with the Mercury Grand Marquis and the Ford LTD Crown Victoria (later the Crown Victoria). This design made them durable even in the rough conditions taxi and livery cars are subjected to, and easy and cheap to repair when they did suffer damage.[3] Town Cars are typically operated in commercial service for at least 400,000 miles.[3]
Its large dimensions made it the largest car in production in North America. From 1997 to 2011, the Town Car was the longest car (but not the heaviest) built in the Western Hemisphere, measuring nearly 18 feet (5.49 m) in length for a standard Town Car and 18.5 feet (5.64 m) for an L Edition.[4
Lincoln is also believed to be preparing a true Town Car successor on a rear-wheel drive platform to rival the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-series
The Town Car underwent a minor exterior facelift for the 1995 model year. Changes to the exterior included smaller, clear headlights as well as additional running lights in the rear. Larger door mirrors were body-colored (formerly chrome), and were moved slightly forward on the door itself. Updated bumpers front and rear, new body side moldings, and the deletion of the small fixed window in the rear doors completed the exterior changes. The antenna was removed from the outside of the car and integrated into the rear window.[16]
1995 also saw the introduction of a new steering wheel, which was used in all Panther-based sedans from 1998 to 2004.[16] In addition to the cruise control buttons,.
Also introduced in 1995 was a new digital dash layout (replacing the unit used since 1993) that featured a more italicized look to the readouts, while the exterior temperature readout moved from the dash cluster to the climate control panel. A "miles to go" trip computer feature was added. Dual power recliners with lumbar support-as well as a three-position driver's seat and mirror memory function became standard (formerly optional) on Signature Series which could be assigned to the keyless entry remotes as well as the up to four personal keyless entry codes. Heated seats were a new option, and door panel switches now featured (slight) illumination from a lamp located below the interior door handle. Power door lock switches were back-lit, and were mounted high up on the driver and passenger door panels. The fuel door release (previously mounted in the center dash panel) and trunk release button moved from inside the glove compartment to the lower driver's side door panel. Similar to the previous year, Signature and Cartier models featured dual clamshell storage armrests up front with cassette storage, coin holder, and an optional Cell phone. The 1997 Cartier models held dual cup holders in the rear center armrest, and offered lighted vanity mirrors in the headliner for the two outboard rear seating positions.
With the demise of the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham after 1996, the Town Car became the last of its kind: the last American full-size, rear-wheel drive luxury car. The demise of the Fleetwood also made the Town Car the largest mass-produced car available in North America.

outstanding car. I owned a 99 cadillac seville sts and oh boy it was a nightmare owning it. Never couldnt really enjoy the car, problems after another. With just 73,000 miles on the odometer, i Had to replace the radiator twice, water pump twice, power steering hose once, fuel pump once, later began to burn oil out of nothing and transmission problems later on. i later sold it cheap to a friend. my friend quickly junked it soon after for consistent problems. i eventually bought a 2001 lincoln town car and wow what a difference. ive had it for four years now and no problems whatsoever. no "check engine" light has ever turned on. the car has 186,600 miles on It and still runs sweet as a nut to this day and just love it. Lincoln is definetely a very reliable car.

Parents used to have a '97 Towncar in the beautiful Silver, and you damn well bet I fought to get them to keep it, but instead my father bought an '08 Buick Enclave and damn all that thing is good for is bringing us back and forth between recalls, the airbags, the power steering, the lift gate, I believe the differentials and the damn seatbelt a too. Whole family regrets it.

Just bought me a 1997 town car at a auction for 950 bucks that was donated for a charity to help them . I got one hell of a car with one small dent in the trunk that can be banged out andcuff on the passenger side bumper in the front . Its black and the paint is still shiney as hell. Must have been garage kept but i dont trust the miles its showing of 68,279 . But who knows .........

One of the features you missed is that this Lincoln can recognize up to 3 different fob's. As soon as you unlock the the car it determines which driver it is and automatically adjust the seats and accessories for that programmed fob/driver.

+drew41428 Just picked up a 97 with 42K, already love it. Needed new front brake pads and the blend door actuator for AC. Fixed those, Put new air springs (just cause old ones were --well--"old) changed fluids, put new white stripe 16" tires on it, and now it's perfect and looks and drives like a brand new car. Quite, smooth, easy to drive, comfortable. just great.

Hey Nathan, love these videos. I've been recovering from knee surgery and pretty much unable to leave the house for the last three weeks, an iPad and your videos has helped keep me sane! I've run all sorts of cars from euro / Japanese to us domestic (I'm in the uk) shame you guys don't get all of the euro models, we have some neat SEAT models (pronounced say-at) very much a golf / Audi A3 but way better looking, the turbo models are very fast, and some had 5 valves per cylinder like the TT. There was also a SEAT Ibiza cupra, like a vw polo but with a TT 1.8 turbo engine - hot little car.

Man, the sound those handles make on them old Town Cars is just bad-ass. Makes a heavy, metallic clunk. They just don't make them like they used to, nowadays car doors opening and closing sound like cardboard, even the new Mercedes doors don't sound the same as the old "vault" doors.

bluecadillac I know the Lincoln came with a bit more bling than the CV's and GM's, but I have the base model 97 Grand Marquis (a GS), and the only real features missing (at about half the price new) are EATC (auto temp control), which can lead to expensive and/or time consuming repairs inside the dash; ABS, which I don't want, as I have to drive in snow and know how to fan a set of brakes; and rear air suspension, a softer ride but a notorious failure point often converted to coilsprings in midlife. The only other things are cosmetic "toys" like an autodimming mirror, compass, external temperature readout, and sequential turn signals...all neat little gadgets of almost no utility, merely items to show off and to break. I wouldn't turn down a TC, but I also wouldn't spend twice as much money on one. My GM has plenty of useful addons, such as interior lights front and rear, left and right, autodimming interior and exterior lights, lighted visor mirror, etc. But FoMoCo must have had one helluva profit margin on the TC's, given that they were basically $30K CV's with no more than $10K more of options. But with all that said, with the exception of a few of the elongated rectangle body Cadillacs from the seventies, there are NO Cadillacs as nice as these beasts.

not what you'd think. They're 18-19 gallons. Not far removed from T-bird/Cougar/Mark VIII size. A Chevy Caprice is a killer to fill, 23 gallons, and with the LT1, they run better on premium, even though I could afford it back then, I never filled it up unless I was going some place far, easily 100 bucks. They actually get pretty good mileage on a long trip, I drove almost 500 miles on a single tank once.

I see. Well, I heard if you change the Oxygen sensors on Lexus/Toyota V8's, like in my Celsior for example, you get 19/24 mpg rather than 15 or 14 mpg. Maybe the same goes for american cars.. But yes: They get excellent gas mileage on highways as usual.. high gear, low RPM= Great gas.

Yours could be from $ 2,000.00 to $ 3,000.00 (cause it is the older model) Note: that the value i'm asking for my cars is the Maximum decent retail price i could possibly, reasonably get if i find the right buyer (which is hard to do) On the negotiation, i can go down 1000 to 1500 easy. So it does give you an idea of what my value, compared to what an actual BUYER would offer is a big difference. Cost? (You can get them from 1$ to 2000$ at auctions...) But they will be junkyard pieces almost... We are talking 'la creme the la creme' which means ABSOLUTELY nothing to repair except maybe fill up the a/c. So that's why a good example like the one he is showing, would probably sell for $ 3495 (my guess)asking price. Buyers offering no more than 3000. Good luck on your sale, please do not hesitate to post about it !

Love all the nice cars you show on your channel. I have a couple questions. Im maybe looking for a lincoln town car like this one and was wondering about shipping, since you mention it in your vids. Could you give me a ball park price on shipping a car to toronto ontario, canada? And is this lincoln still for sale?

I have a 95 Town Car Cartier with 46k original miles on it. I am the second owner. The car cost close to 42K brand new. I have a video on my channel if anyone wants to check it out.

Heh I also wondered about that Volvo, it's a staple of the cul-de-sac reviews along with, "As nice as it gets" and "Turns on a dime." Would be devastated* if it were to disappear. *Not really

My mechanic says he loves these cars because they are easy to work on and will give you very few problems.

Gary Taylor About the only real complication in a Panther platform car is if it has automatic leveling air ride rear suspension. Other than that, that's pretty much the case; easy to work on and few problems when properly maintained.

+Watcher3223 The air suspension system is really very easy to work on. Takes about 30 min to change out an air spring (including jacking the car and removing the wheel). and if you change out the air springs as soon as they start to leak so that you notice (either rear end drops when parked overnight, or the CHECK AIR SUSPENSION light comes on while you are driving (that's when the air spring has a pretty big leak). the compressor will last a long time. If you let the compressor take up the slack for a bad leak, it will wear out the compressor quickly. sprigs are real easy to remove, two large screwdrivers and long nose pliers. New springs install requiring zero tools, they just snap in. I've heard of dealers charging $1500 for doing this, they should be arrested. springs cost $100 each for good ones, and compressors are about $300. I have rigged in a $20 compressor (from walmart) intended for airing tires, and it worked fine for over 5 years, was just a bit noisy.

Is there a way to contact you other than phone. I would really like to find a '97-'96 town car, state side. Cars here in ontario, canada are mostly beat up or rotted out.
