Ceremonial welcome for Emperor and Empress of Japan at start of state visit

The Emperor and Empress of Japan received a ceremonial welcome of military pomp and pageantry as their state visit began.
The King and Queen greeted their guests on Horse Guards Parade where some of the nation’s most prestigious regiments were on display.
The two heads of state warmly shook hands as did their wives under a large purpose-built pavilion that shielded them from the blistering summer sun.

No, it was to a party of youngsters who were just back from a visit to China and my boyfriend at the time was Borneo/Chinese at Sussex University! We hooted with laughter and he wasn't in the slightest offended as he was a great fan of the D. of E.!!!

Who are "they"? Why does the current Emperor, who wasn't even alive at the time, need to apologize for anything? The current Emperor Emeritus, who was a child during WW2, offered a personal apology when he visited the UK in 1998. You may as well ask whether the British ever apologized for the Bengali famine or the Americans for the My Lai massacre. Stop living in the past.

During the 60s and 70s, when China reopened to the world, and particularly for industry and management, to Japan, numerous apologies were made. I think the answer to your question is that if you look for said apologies, there’s a good chance that you will find them!
