I know this is not the complete set but as I will make a part 2 later on down the line, as I find more.

You can tell this is from the 90s because his voice sounded more high pitched

"Catastrophic converter"! These were from my area as a kid. I wasn't IN the area yet at this point, so I never saw these, but I came to SoCal from NorCal real young and stayed there for a good lot of years and miss parts of it a whole hell of a lot.

Heck yeah dude, right on. I am from SoCal, the Inland Empire has changed a lot over the years, but even with all the warts, I still love it here. Thanks for watching!

I wonder how much money he made doing all these commercials
@Horselings2 жыл бұрын
He did well, but wasn't paid huge money for the commercials. Commercials are usually a one-off payment without percentages or residuals, so $25,000 for a one-minute spot was fairly normal. He made more for his films, and his family still gets residuals on those. Jim had a nice home in the TN hills, but it wasn't 'palatial'. Just a nice, southern style home. He had some acreage with it, with woods and a pretty meadow that had a stream running through it. He once showed me the Civil War headstone (5-6, I think) under a big oak tree by the stream.

TV Vortex, do you happen to have the ad with Jim Varney and a Chinese Shar Pei dog that he calls 'Shorty' in the ad? That was our dog, T'ko, and I'd really love to find that clip. I will keep watching for it on your channel as you add more Jim Varney ads, just in case. :) Jim was a friend. He was such a nice, warm, intelligent guy, and in real life was so different from his character, Ernest. He was also a fabulous Shakespearean actor who could give you chillbumps with his monologues of Hamlet and King Lear. Miss him a lot.

That's really awesome. I have seen some of his other work, and I do agree he was skilled as an actor. Yeah I know what ad you are referring to, it exists on Ernest's Greatest Hits Volume 1, which is here on KZbin in full. You can also search Ernest Before Lunch to easily find it. I do not have that ad in any of my videos and I am unaware if there is a Southern California version of it. The one I've seen is for Boulder Toyota. All my tapes are from SoCal and they are all basically unlabeled, which means I do not know what we're gonna get until we see it.

@@tvvortex9622 Thank you! I'll look for it. I did find two other ads he did calling two other dogs 'Shorty', so must've been a part of his schtick. lol Our dog was a Chinese Shar Pei, so will do some digging. Thanks for the info! If I find it, I'll post it here in replies.
