@R J Meeks I think last year they were depending on an outside FX shop, and dumped the job on them last minute. So they only had 2 weeks to do the ship. Even then they used a ship design that was originally from the first failed attempt at STO by Acclaim. So technically the Inquiry is also a canonized STO ship;) . Seeing all of this starts to make more sense when you look over at STD. And realize that they create some assets in house. Such as the Discovery and first season and second season Fed ships. But other stuff they have bought wholesale from third party 3d model shops. The kind that provide Assets for Video games. All of those 32nd Century Federation Ships that look like they come out of a plumbing supply catalog? The ones that look like they belong more in a Mass Effect game than Star Trek? Yeah those were bought off the shelf from a company selling Video Game ships. That may have been the point where somebody realized "Hey if we can use Video Game ships off the shelf... why can't we use ships from the Star Trek Video Game?" It helped that some of the new production crew both on Picard and I believe the Lower Decks ship designer are STO fans.

This is beyond good news. Maybe they will take some of the events of the game and bring them to the series! The door is now opened for it after all.

The Sutherland class, being an update version of the Nebula class, is like the new DDG(X) destroyer of the US Navy since it used the same design of the existing Arleigh Burke class with new and update weapon and sensor systems as well as being a stretched and larger version of this design.
@OperativeD2 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit surprised that you didn't go into detail about the Ross class being essentially a "fan creation" since it was specifically created to coincide with the Clear Skies Star Trek Adventures TTRPG stream from Queue Times. Granted in that games universe it was still in it's experimental stage going to explore the Shackleton Expanse. Especially interesting is that it featured not one, but two warp cores that could also be ejected should the situation arise for it. Still I love your lore videos and story series and, as always, look forward to what new content you bring for us viewers.
@bermanmo62372 жыл бұрын
Not only difference that the backbone of the US Navy non carrier surface fleet is the Arleigh Burke class destroyer. In a real world navy, there is not an infinite budget where you can buy ships of new designs every year. So to keep cosr down, you would have upgrades and variants of a succesful existing design that meant a navy's needs. In the xsde of the Burke class, there were 3 different version, Flight 1 to Flight 3, plus a stretch version that is going to the US Navy's next generatiion destroyer. There are designs like the MEKO as well as from shipbuilders like Damen that are modular and can be easily modified to fit a particular navy's need.

@@Geggy0815 When did you get a look at the registry? If it was while Picard was standing in front of the ship outlines at the academy, did you notice the Stargazer shown was the old one NCC 2893, not the new one NCC 82893? that confused me for a minute, and I had to go back and check. I think those displays were to show the heritage of the names of ships the cadets were being assigned to rather than to show the ships themselves (if not, Starfleet or the shows VFX department made a major mistake by showing the wrong Stargazer).

i belive at this point it is a tradition to have one ship with the name Excelsior in service as some kind of token of good odem like "As long as there are a Enterprise and Excelsior are in service the Federation will not fall"
