Could life exist without proteins (structures of amino acids) is an interesting questions. I'd say the answer is yes. It would still be carbon based (or silicon based) and could use a glucose structure. Such life would need a different environment though. Also abiogenesis happened no matter how you look at it, even the panspermia theory requires an off planet abiogenesis event at some point but it's very distinct from evolution which can only take place once there is something to work with. Evolution is the process by which life survives in an ever changing environment through mutations and natural selection.

The “soup” is minerals dissolved in water flowing into a tide pool and partially evaporating between tides, creating a more and more dense slurry of minerals. I have no idea what the source he was referencing was actually talking about, maybe that there hadn’t been enough time for the water to dissolve enough rocks to become salty? Idk. Also, Peterson, when taking to people this dumb, when you put aside abiogenesis, you need to make it absolutely clear what you mean. “For the purpose of this discussion, we are assuming a god made one type of single celled life 3.5 billion years ago, then went away. Would evolution still be the true explanation for how we have every species alive today?”
