Hey thanks for this wonderful information, the help and peace of mind it offers to so many. Your compassion and passion for helping others along with your field of work really shines through. I was wondering if you have any info on the neck and occipital neuralgia.

Very helpful and informative video. Thank you. I’m about to be 51 years old was recommended posterior cervical laminoplasty for C4-7. I have herniated nucleus pulposus at 6-7 with significant cord compression. With this surgery, it looks like the trap door leaves the spinal cord exposed. Could it move around, and if so is that dangerous? I intend to plan this surgery in the upcoming months while my I’m in relatively good health. I feel I might recover quicker than if I wait 10+ years. I’m just worried because my pain now is tolerable and I can function normally just a little slower and less active. I’m worried that if I get the surgery now what is the success rate and could I be risking coming out with issues that were not present before the surgery? Long post, sorry. Any comments/thoughts are appreciated.

You can always do a virtual appointment with me by calling 415-925-8200. It is not a problem for the spinal cord to be exposed

Excellent video! I had a c4-c6 laminoplasty, c7 dome laminectomy, and a c4-c5 foraminotomy on May 9th this year. My question..... I'm finding lots of info on the laminoplasty as well as laminectomy. The only articles I have found as to why a surgeon would preform a c7 dome laminectomy with decompression laminoplasty is because of possible spinal cord "kinking". Is this typical for some patients? I Truthfully trust my surgeon 100%, I find all this fascinating and when I searched my procedure, I couldn't find a good article/video to satisfy my "why".

I'm interested to make an appointment to see you since you mentioned that this procedure might be a good option in my case of osteoporosis and cervical stenosis. I am not in California so do you accept virtual appointments? all 3 surgeons I saw never brought up this procedure all said the same thing get osteoporosis treated first then come back. I wonder why.

What can be done about calcification of the posterior longitudinal ligament? I don't want it cut and have my head hang down. My canal is now at 6mm and the pain is crazy. I get an MRI soon then see the surgeon. Any suggestions??

@DrBrianSuTheSpineGuy
@DrBrianSuTheSpineGuy Жыл бұрын
There are some studies that show that a laminectomy and fusion lead to less progression of opll then would laminoplasty because of the persistent motion

Dr Riew was the only spine surgeon who offered this alternative to having cervical fusions. I can not say enough about him as a Dr or as a truly remarkable individual. It has been nearly 8 years since the surgery. I certainly have no regrets. I highly recommend him and the surgery. It was a life saver for me !!!
