When Brette started choking up about getting a speedo suit for Cesar, I legit cried. I thought, sjoe, this guy really loves Cesar. The love and respect Cesar and Brett have is pure. What a moment in swimming history. This podcast is so great for swimming. It's a blessing. Keep it up! Love from South Africa.

I can't even describe how much this interview kicks the shit out of other swimming content out there from this coach's perspective. Unbelievable work! My top age groupers will be listening to Cielo describe his obsession with details today

If we have access to content like this we would never stop swimming in poor country of Georgia, where pools were shut for 3 month in winter, when I was a kid 17 years ago. Thank you Brett!

You are right Brett, absolutely right! People don't understand César Cielo's mentality. I certainly didn't understand it before listenning to this podcast! The guy is such a mental GIANT, it's absolutely ridiculous! His mindset reminds a lot of another Brazilian GREAT, Ayrton Senna, specially after hearing César talk about leaving a legacy for Brazilian Swimming and Brazilian Sports in general at 2:27:46. Congratulations for everything you and César achieved together and the people you've inspired, also congrats to David Popovici for taking it to the next level and THANK YOU for this amazing podcast (not only this episode!), so many things to learn, not only for swimmers (I'm not even one), but to take into every day life! Cheers man! 🥳🥂

Thank you Brett: you were mostly responsible for the growth of Cesão into a grown man and athlete! Another great interview. Cesão wasn't very good with dealing with losses - you taught him the winning mindset. He was so talented. And he was always a cry baby.

Thank you Brett and Cesar for the 2.5 hours of pure gold! When I rewatched all Cesar's finals at the Olympics or the Worlds after hearing the podcast, all his visceral scream of joy, water-thrashing and tears of joy become so much more meaningful and touching. It's very inspiring to everyone from all walks of life!

@@InsidewithBrettHawke I really liked his "I'm the best" outlook. I think a lot of people confuse this with being cocky. The important difference is that this is not about disrespecting others and their abilities but rather respecting your own abilities and acknowledging that you are competent and able to be the best. I also really enjoyed the bit about the training he did with Fred - I can't even imagine the the level to which they pushed themselves in training. I think having another top freestyler to always compare to was the difference between him and his competition. I think having that clear feedback from training with Fred allowed him to more accurately pinpoint his weakest and strongest areas and allowed him to progress with way more ease.

Why is he not on drugs? Most Romanian cyclists are suspect! We are in a new generation of sponsored drug taking where athletes wouldn't even know they were on them!
