Just curious how have you been getting on with your little terrier I have a Jack Russell terrier too his 10 years old I’ve had him since he was eight weeks old and I’ve always lived at home with my family so there’s always been someone home now I’ve moved out and it’s just me and him when I go to work he cries and barks non-stop :( I have a doggy camera so I can see him he just doesn’t sit still!! I’ve tried leaving the radio on distracting him with toys and chews, tiring him out with walks first and tried to take it in stages leaving him five minutes at a time and nothing seems to work :’( xx

I live in a small apartment so I don't really have a lot of room to do this exercise with my dog :(

In the 80's -- i.e. before the internet -- I had a dog with separation anxiety, and I hit on the idea of letting her spend the days with a neighbor's young dog who also was unhappy being left alone. I confined them in my kitchen with plenty of water and newspapers on the floor. There was quite the mess to clean up but her big grin when I got home made it all worthwhile. Eventually the neighbor moved away but my dog was cured of her anxiety then so it worked out.

My son’s lab had terrible separation anxiety so I took the easy way out. I bought a huge kennel and adopted him a friend. Now they hang out in the kennel together when we have to leave and he is calm, never tries to bust out or chew up the tray. Ha! Not a solution everyone can use, I know. Worked like magic, though.😅

Well done. Cesar is focused on being a TV star. He doesn't show the dirty part. By dirty part, I mean what seems inhumane to humans but means leadership that dogs are hungry for as dogs. He always shows things at a macro level after success rather than the daily work that goes in at a micro level. He is EXCELLENT at training dogs, but he really does a rather poor job of educating humans how to relate to their dogs. You have it right! I encourage you to delve into the world of TRUE balanced dog training. I think Cesar practices balanced dog training but presents more of a positive only approach to be popular, showing results without showing methods. You are definitely on the right track and your approach is definitely more compassionate and loving to dogs that those that criticize you for being cruel. Keep up the good work!

I do DoorDash. So, it’s not regular hours. Sometimes I may be gone from 8 to even 12 hours at a time. And other times I’m back at the house between every order. As much as I know he doesn’t like being locked up, if I said, ok, I’ve gotta go, he’d go straight for his cage. And then he started to differentiate between the body language of me getting ready to leave, as opposed to getting ready to take him outside. Then it eventually got to the point, if he heard the alert from the DoorDash app, he would run to his cage.

My dog was abandoned out in the middle of nowhere, near my workplace. He was sitting on the side of the road, and my daughter and I eventually got him to come to us. We didnt have a place to send him, so he hung out with me in my loader and latched on to me. Now I can't even leave him home with my wife. He sits and whines and howls all day until i get home. He has to go to work with me every day. Luckily I work somewhere that is cool with it. The guys at work love him and the daughter of the owner of the company actually went out and bought him his own safety vest with the company logo on it.

I just wanted to say that putting a dog in a crate isn’t a bad thing. Dogs are naturally den animals. Hence, if you give them a treat they really relish, they will often take it back to their bed (den). Dogs will often feel anxious if they are left in a large amount of space because they feel they have to protect it. The smallest amount of space they are in,(as long as they can stretch out and stand up without any restriction), makes them actually feel safer. It’s also much easier when it comes to puppy training. Dogs won’t naturally soil their own bed, so the smaller you make the space, the less likely they are to pee in the bed. (den). We have used crates all our 3 dogs over the last 22 years and each one of them has been happy and healthy. This is the first dog we have had one that has really suffered from separation anxiety (he’s only 14 weeks old). I just didn’t want crate training to be demonised as something that is cruel to dogs, actually it is something that makes them feel a lot more secure. Thank you, Caesar, for such a great video, we have already started implementing this technique, our dog is a cocker spaniel, so he’s a quick learner! We are trying to make the “designated space” the threshold of a room, and his bed (eventually it will be his bed permanently, but like you having multiple tables around, we are using the threshold of a room to create the separation gradually, as Reuben wants to be with my husband constantly, literally, touching! So the fact that we have managed to get him to stay at the threshold of a room and then reward him calmly with affection and reassurance that he is a “good boy“ is a massive achievement. 🙏🤞🐾❤️

@@kyliegirl1976exactly. One trainer was saying how one of the worse things new puppy owners make is giving their pups/dogs too much unsupervised freedom. A crate should be a pups/dogs safe space anyway. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with crate training so long as it’s no used as a form of punishment. If I can’t physically keep eyes on my pup, I know she’s going to be safe in her crate, which prevents toileting accidents and her getting into something she shouldn’t be.

This video helped me SO MUCH with my dogs separation anxiety. We started to do Point of Interest training around the house throughout the day and incorporated that with what we were doing before (leaving the house, coming back in and rewarding if she is calm and stays put). BOOM! HUGE difference! Now we can leave the house for 40min and she is relaxed, stress free and calm. Working up to 1 hour and then multiple hours! Thank you Cesar!!

I have a seven month old Moyenne poodle; I was hoping watching Cesar address this problem, as my dog has severe, separation anxiety.; she has frantically tried to dig her self from behind the door; I do not trust her yet to be alone in the whole house; too many danger factors for her. Yes, I have tried to think of anything she might get into and put them extremely high, put them in containers; but she still is able to get what she wants.Factors that probably contribute or that it is only the dog and I. I got her to train her as a service dog, but I am having doubts that will be possible with the destructive separation anxiety she has. I.e. she had been crated before and was very anxious. I mistakenly thought, giving her a bigger room would help. Put the crate in the room for her to have all her comfort things along with items with my scent. I cannot count how many times she follows menow. She has figured out a please in the house, where she can keep an ion me at all times, and lays there, if she hears me move, she jumps right up and comes to my side. Her eyes follow me constantly while she is eating. If I am out of sight, she will stop eating and look for me. I have tried the technique of going inch by inch away from her, if she sit/stays and comes on command she is rewarded. She nose bumps the frame of my wheelchair as if she is checking "yes she still here". She is good with other dogs; gets too excitable and jumps with people. My wheelchair has been out of order since December 2022, so it very much interrupted training and not able to give her proper exercise. Caesars cute dog in the clip, to me, does not actually have separation anxiety, so it is difficult to really see he works with a dog with severe separation anxiety.
@ChillisaSpeedruns
@ChillisaSpeedruns Жыл бұрын
@@cheryldamico6210 One thing I noticed in your comment is the "if she sit/stays and comes on command she is rewarded" Cesar says in this video NOT to recall your dog from the place you are trying to get them to stay at because you are rewarding your dog for leaving that place and coming towards you, which is the opposite of what you want. You want to tell your dog to stay in one place while you move away from them. If they are able to stay in that place you go back to them and reward them. You just keep on doing this and you'll be able to go further away from your dog for longer periods of time. Remember, don't call your dog from these places because it's a fun game your doing where your dog is challenged to stay in that place until you come back! Hope this helps!!

@@PamelaWildman-WilliamsNo, clearly you don’t understand. You obviously put your own needs before that of your dog. This is typical and often the case with clients in dog training. You seek to cater to your own emotions, thinking you’re helping the dog, but your over sensitivity to your needy emotions blind you from the actual needs of a canine (and child as the psychology is quite similar). Honestly, you’re absurd and ignorant with regard to basic child/dog psychology. Good luck with that. The rest of your armchair analysis is laughable and far removed from the truth.

My 8 month old puppy Hudson (chihuahua spaniel mix) is dealing with isolation distress. He gets plenty of exercise and nice long walks twice a day. When someone is home, Hudson is fine to be in his crate, wait patiently, or play with his toys in another part of the home while we’re in the bathroom or kitchen. Initially we believed him to have separation anxiety, but as we reinforced crate training and constant rewarding for being quiet when left the room, we discovered his issue is only when we leave the home. We approach leaving our house the same way we approached crate training and keeping him in other rooms (we call them “In and Outs”).. started with short periods of time, rewards when he was calm, extended to longer periods of time the more comfortable he got. When doing In and Out training, we can build up his time to hours in his crate, or 15/20 minutes waiting outside the house (it’s a cold winter in Canada, can’t stay out there long). The problem comes when we leave the house and Hudson realizes this no longer is a training exercise, he howls excessively until our return. He refuses to relax in his crate or take a nap. He once howled for 3 hours straight when we needed to go out. How am I suppose to reward a calm puppy for my return if he’s never calm and doesn’t stop howling? We need to eventually re-enter our home, but because he’s howling that means Hudson wins. We can’t do “In and Out” build ups everytime we need to go out to the gym, dinner, grocery shopping, etc. Please help!! Michael and Stephanie

This is soooo helpful! I’ve been wondering why my dog is so attached to me. I’ve been teaching him that getting off is point of reference and coming to me is a good thing when I should not be doing that. So grateful for this!
