I found this principle through experience once I realized my puppies would immediately respond to a very serious NO when they approached something dangerous such as an electrical cord, vs a meek half hearted NO that was sounded throughout the day over little issues. When you are serious in your intention, they certainly get it.

Like babies and children, the intonation and energy behind the word or sound has the meaning, not the word itself. You can test it by using sweet words to scold a dog and you bet he will not see it so sweet. Likewise, you can use horrible, mean words to talk to a dog using a sweet and loving intonation and the dog will wag her tail and love it.

By the way it's not up to us to disprove Cesar Milland methods it up to him and his fans to provide scientifically evidence for your position (the burden of proof lies on you) I don't won't anecdotal evidence from a bunch of uneducated CM or a blog post either (unless it includes citations to back up their claims). If not you can either change your position or be an ignorant CM sheep. By the way just because someone down votes a video and leave meaningless comments with no substance doesn't make the video creators position wrong ( that's an appeal to popularity fallacy)

It IS the owners. I keep saying - I've never had to train a dog how to be a dog.

A bit of progress, but apparently they still need their deal renegotiated, remainer and leaver alike, because the EU did not give the UK what the UK wanted. Patience. If you play in the team, you play by the rules. If you do not play in the team, you are out, but when you come in, you play by the rules. "Disciplining" your dog is patiently & consistently communicating to your animal (or child) what is acceptable or unacceptable behavior. If you are CONSISTENT in your communication, discipline can never be considered "mean". The problem with people is they lack discipline (patient, consistent communication). Thus, when an undisciplined person decides to own a pet, since they don't know how to properly discipline their animal, they end up confusing the animal into thinking, "I'm the owner". In other words, their dogs think you're their "bitch". :) What's my point? If you want to lead a healthy, happy life, watch how someone "disciplines" their pet. It will reveal much about that individual. Never marry a person who yells and screams at their pet (or, anything, anyone, else, for that matter!). Undisciplined people can never be happy or satisfied and, thus, will make the person their married to, just as unhappy as, themselves.

I assume you mean that your dog runs away from you if you try to keep it away from the food in the way Cesar does it. That could be because you put too much energy behind your assertiveness. Some dogs are quite sensitive, so the same amount of assertiveness may be just right for a confident dog, but too much for a more sensitive one. Try to adjust your intensity so that you get the point across, without overwhelming the dog. Just my two cents, hope it helps.

Well, those are two key elements, but they aren't the only ones. I wish this kind of thing was easy to learn/describe, but it isn't. Don't give up, keep trying in different ways, with different dogs. It has taken me a lot of trial and error to understand what Cesar teaches... the big advantage is that dogs don't rely on memories as much as we do ;-) Also, your internal state is very important, strive to always be calm and confident in yourself and your control of the situation. It's a long process, but keep watching what Cesar does with different dogs, and keep observing dogs and how they behave, and don't be afraid of trying things out. Some things will click sooner, others later. Good luck!
