This is one of the most significant moments in Ronnie's career, and snooker itself. Ronnie was having a bad period in his career, not winning much in the past couple of seasons. But this comeback, and then going on to win the tournament, brought the Rocket back to life. He's been winning tournaments almost every year (except for 2015) ever since this.

This tournament was the turning point in Ronnie's career
@jonathanward73204 жыл бұрын
ThinkDifferent completely agree, he hadn’t won a ranking title in 3 years before this tournament. He could’ve easily thrown the towel in and got beat 5-0, but something switched in his head and he showed the will to fight back and win (perhaps a word with Steve Peters??). But after this win he gets two consecutive world titles, IMO I don’t think he would’ve had the success he has now without this moment

Yes, there seems to be a 'switch' that some sports people, some writers, actors and designers - and, I guess, others, - can 'turn' and suddenly leap-frog their skill; switching from struggle to taking control. A kind of power! (J).

At 8:33 you can see that the calm demeanor of Higgins is broken as he breaks into a small laugh after losing an almost certain match-winning frame. I suppose he got intimidated by Ronnie and this is like a nervous chuckle to release some tension. It's truly the turning point of the match as Higgins up to then seemed to keep his composure and stay in control.

Andrew Higginson was cruelly unlucky in frame 5. First, he ended up snookered on the easy red in the corner that would have virtually guaranteed victory. Then, he pulled off an excellent pressure long red, and found himself touching the brown with no way to make a colour and keep his break going. That said, Ronnie's clearance was, well, typical Ronnie!

Took 9 months off comes back wins the masters then wins the world's take a year comes back and defends his title for number 5.........waisted 9 years of his career partying due to the lack of discipline and appetite and still racks up these numbers and only last year he wins the inaugural coral series beating judd again and robbo to return to world number 1 at 43🤔he owns the shanghai masters and the champ of champs a tournament designed for him😁and now at 44 he's world champion again for the 6th time so this comeback is nothing to him his achievements are scary...... Many thanks for this reminder! i honestly think Ronnie thought Higginson didn't deserve to win this... i don't think Ronnie particularly wanted to be there, but then he started playing better, coz Higginson wasted his chances. i'm not saying Ronnie would throw a match, but he might let chances slip away at times and not care. Coz it seems Ronnie can turn his CUE ACTION on at will. So it seems at least. When it's really needed, it's there. Motivation is the only factor Ronnie needs to heed. Just my opinion, and could be wrong. But i hope this season he's motivated to go on a winning streak. Am gonna bet him to win every tournament he participates haha!
