Thank you, Cliff! Kayaking lake Lewisville and Hickory creek is one of my favorite routes to go. Last Sunday my son and I found large alligator slide in one of the Hickory creek coves. I know that in general, Denton county has a known population for alligators, especially lake Lewisville, but observing it by yourself is pretty thrilling and reminds that everyone should be extra careful by the shore line and follow the 30 foot distance rule.

Thanks for watching and commenting Slava! Wow, that is exciting to see an alligator on lake Lewisville. I have always heard of their presence, but have yet to see any alligators up here in North Texas. You are right, just give them space and they will leave you alone. Safe adventuring out there!

Cliff, this was a great video. I appreciate the local history lesson as well. I've always wanted to Kayak, but had some traumatic experiences in the water at a young age, and have always been discouraged to get paddling. This video is helping me move forward.

Hello Colonel - Thanks for watching and thank you for your comments! Hopefully I will see you out on the water kayaking sometime soon! I would suggest a light and easy to carry transport kayak that is super stable! Lately, I have fallen in Love with inflatables. They perform very well and are extremely safe, dependable and durable! Check out SeaEagle kayaks. Here are two I would recommend for superior durability, stability & transportability! Nice video. Enjoyed your narration as well. Before stumbling onto your video, I was wondering about launching a kayak on Hickory Creek at Alton Bridge but didn't know if it was accessible. Thanks for showing me that it is a bit rough but possible!

Thanks for the video. I went out there over Memorial Day weekend and it was great. It was quiet and very scenic with lots of shade. The water was smooth. We only came up on 1 fishing boat.

Fyi- You can also jump off the Old Alton Bridge into the river, as it is plenty deep. That's for the daredevils.

hi Cliff, thanks for the video. i live in hickory creek and go to the parks often but didnt know about this paddle trail...will be planning a day for my family to do this....which brings me to my question: did you happen to see what was swimming across lake at such a rapid pace (on ur video, north of you at 5 min 28 seconds)? im new at this so just curious to what precautions i should prepare for with a family of 6...other than having the Ghost Busters number handy?
@KayakCliff6 жыл бұрын
The Sprabary Family - Thanks Spraybary family for the kind comments! Hey, I checked out the 5:28 mark and I do remember that shot. It was a duck taking off from a position in the water. It takes them awhile to get airborne, so you see them hop or run across the water as they work to get airborne. Leaves a nice visual trail. I remember thinking to myself as I shot that - “I hope this comes out in the video!” Safe paddling! I will have more trail videos in North Texas coming soon!
