My engine, airframe, and avionics were good. But it was not until after I purchased the C150 that I figured out the fuel shutoff was non-functional, the parking brake locking mechanism didn’t work, and the seats were completely non-adjustable, bolted in place rat rod seats. No mention in the annual of any of that.

Compression check is worthless without borescope the cylinder. Plus the compression should have been checked warm, after flying 45-60 minutes. That cylinder could be fine. Nothing else you mentioned is a show stopper. The A&P should have at least checked for all ADs or spent a lot more time on the logs to verify what you need to know. You’re now in the dark as to whether the ADs are up to date which is a significant part of pre-buy. You didn’t mention AD status. Was anything said about corrosion? That’s usually one of the few things that might make you walk away. At least you did a pre-buy. Good hunting.
@petermarkman14963 жыл бұрын
If your A&P did compression then he should have also done a leak down for that low cylinder to determine where it was losing pressure. Did he do that? What did he find? If could be something like carbon on the exhaust valve. A relatively easy and cheap fix.

You think a seller would do the same thing and fix it or sell it with a list of as is items. The dents in the skin could come from rocks shot up by tires on landing, there is a lot of energy on landing and you squeeze a rock just right, like a car or truck shooting a rock at your window and cracking it.

Appreciate all the photos that show the areas that had problems! Always annoying when someone talks about various mechanical parts you're not familiar without showing you what they're talking about.

Lets not forget that prices of used aircraft are greatly inflated!! An airplane that's seling for $100k maybe actually have a value of less than $60k. Short in SUPPLY and big on DEMAND! I would wait it out!!

Out of control. I think prices will come down but you never know. I had a 47 Navion years ago I wish I still had. No way I can afford to buy again.

Talking about the cylinder issue, did the mechanic "Stake" the valves in that cylinder???
@justaboutaviation9343 Жыл бұрын
Not sure about that. Im not familiar with that term. As this was a year ago, I cant remember what they did. The plane had sat for almost a year. I believe it just needed to be flown. As of my last annual, compressions are good, and I have a cylinder on stand by ready to go on if needed. Thanks for watching.

I just paid $3000 for flap tracts on my 1966 Cessna 150F. That was parts and labor.
@CM-0102 жыл бұрын
Flap Track replacement is a complete whore of a job. Tracks are $300 each, and is a time consuming job, and the trailing edge skin that has to be removed and reinstalled is another PITA. More often than not, if the tracks are worn beyond limits, the attach hardware and rollers will need to be replaced. That's another $450 in parts easily. The price you paid sounds like you got a fair deal, for sure.

Personally, I would walk away from that one. There’s plenty of fish in the sea when it comes to the C150.

I’m looking to buy soon, can I ask what the pre-buy inspection cost?
@justaboutaviation93433 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand, prebuy inspections can vary on how deeply you want to inspect. It's sort a double edge sword. The more you find wrong, the more leverage in negotiating a sale price. But the more you find to be fixed. As in my case, the seller and I worked out things he would have repaired, vs how close to his asking price I would pay. Hope that helps. PS...I spent about $400.
