Real reason is that Chevy is an asshole who would rather sit in his trailer all day than be near everyone for even one minute he isn't needed for

They do it with every show and movie, helps get the camera angles set up and where to put the lighting, they want to do a mock up to see how things look before having the actors actually do it with all the real effort that takes, saves a lot of time for the actors and production in general, when they step in they know exactly where to stand etc.

@@bennyharvey6710 given that most TV episode scripts have 'A', 'B' or 'C' plot threads that involve subgroups of the other characters, it can also allow them to shoot multiple scenes at the same time
