I'm not a big fan of so many teams making the playoff. It's just another way to hand out participation trophies.
@mitchgoddard84592 жыл бұрын
Here is my problem with playoff expansion. Let's go to a highly rated conference. Team A plays Team B during the regular season and wins by 10. Team A goes undefeated and this game is Team B's only loss. They meet in the conference championship game and Team A wins by 6. With this being a highly rated conference, Team B is in the playoff at 11-2. During the playoffs Team A and Team B meet up again and Team B wins in OT. Now which is the better team? Playoff expansion cheapens the regular season. I will probably not watch much college football once expansion happens, I don't watch the NFL for much the same reason..
@mattstrathis43282 жыл бұрын
@@mitchgoddard8459 Yep that's the other thing. The regular season will become boring like the NFL is. Some playoff teams will be 8-4 and others will have their spot wrapped up in October (Bama, Georgia).

Love Joel. It's funny how times change though. 3 or 4 years ago I watched Joel go on about not expanding the playoff. The 6 or 8th place team had 2 or 3 losses the previous couple of years and so they didn't deserve to be in the playoff. And rightly so. But time goes by, the cream gets even better, and now it's a 12 team playoff. I like it. Situation changes and Joel changes with it. Good on Joel. As a fan of Indiana, there's no way they or quite a few of those other teams 'would have been' CFP teams deserved a shot for a title by the end of the regular season. The point about 'success' being making the CFP and saying how more teams would have had that success, without the actual results of their season changing, is the textbook definition of moving the goalposts. There will be some positives of expansion, but we're just making CFB more like every other sport. If CFB is your favorite sport, that doesn't seem like an exclusively good thing.

As a Buckeye fan I think it's clear that Alabama and George have the best 2 teams again. Oregon may not be as good as last year, and even last year they suffered from injuries and Covid and fell apart. But Oregon has athletes and UGA punished them. Alabama looks great even though the competition was easy. But I would have them No. 1 and UGA no. 2. I think OSU can and will get better but will they be at the level of those top 2 SEC teams...I am not so sure but let's see how the season plays out. Clemson could jump into this conversation as well. Notre Dame impressed me and they are big and strong and just need their offense to come together. LSU was disappointing and FSU was a surprise. I thought FSU outplayed LSU for much of the game. The ACC could be a surprise this year with Clemson, FSU, Miami, NC State, UNC, and others playing well. Finally I was impressed with the Gators and especially that QB. Oh my is that kid something special. He will be a nightmare for every team that plays Florida this year.
