I knew about the existence of Camp California for the TGCD thanks to a goofy promotional video from that era, but I had no idea that Yo, Bro ever existed. This might be the first one of your reviews that covers a game I was completely unaware of. Looks like the best part of this game is really the dialogue in the box at the bottom. At least that has a little personality.

Just the fact that this game has a "kids alive" meter is hilarious to me, also I'm glad you pointed out the Beach Boys soundtrack because it was driving me crazy not knowing why that 8bit rendition in the beginning sounded familiar.

Just watched Retro Pals try to play this game and they noticed it is shockingly graphic. Like the little bunny just eats the kid's skull in a single bite. It is indeed more disturbing than the single blood-curling scream all the victims in Zombies Ate My Neighbors make when captured by the enemies. And the final bonus stage, at the end of the game. (refering to the Longplays video for that.) They imagine the bonus stages represent the licenses ICOM wishes NEC could've given them instead of animalized Beach Boys (something they suspect originated in a canceled '70s cartoon but was weirdly revived for two TurboGrafx games.)

lol i owned this game as a kid. i understand the frustrations with what hes saying. if u play this game enough the controls don't really bother you. its just aiming at enemies is the most frustrating thing about this game. but u also get used to positioning. i could never beat the amoebas as kid. always lost on this level... its damn near impossible. with the help of an emulator i manged to beat it. very challenging game.

I tried it on an emulator on psp and the graphics have many errors. But it seems really fun.

Cool, will have to check this one out on my TurboEverdrive sometime! I never had a TG-16 back in the day but I have a couple now and an Everdive so besides the pack in game and just a couple titles (we rented the system and some games back in the day) most tiles are new to me. Though not as popular here there seems to be some quirky titles on the TG-16.

I actually liked this game and disappointed that it was never on the Virtual Console. It's mostly a nostalgia factor but it was a good game to play in the summer time. I hope you review the sequel, Camp California as I never got a chance to play it. It was a better game, right?
