This is very useful also to learn hammer-ons and pull-offs, as long as the left hand fingers have to do the same type of preparation and ergonomy. Two goals in one!

Good tips. I had not known about the role of the right hand. Thanks!

Thanks, Cindy! Yes, the right hand is really important actually and taking care to play through the string to allow it to continue resonating can be a gamechanger for legato! -Dave

Thanks for the wonderful lesson. In 4:58; "put fingers down early" I was wondering if applying this to scales is a good legato practice?
@ClassicalGuitarCorner3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sonny, ideally we want to get in the habit of transferring weight of one finger to another finger, which will help develop finger independence, but in the early stages it can be very helpful to leave fingers down to improve legato for scales, yes. Hope this helps! -Dave

Hi great video but I have an off-topic question, I hope that's OK. I notice you are wearing a black sleeve on your right arm. I have often wondered why other than to tell myself it makes things more comfortable. I also notice some classical guitarists don't use it but have an extra strip of wood edging the guitar body. I do find that sometimes my forearm goes to sleep as it rests on the edge of the guitar and this leads to tension in my right shoulder. Is this your experience and why you opted to use a sleeve?

Hi David, this is Niki answering. Thank you for your kind words and for your question, which is a great one. I personally wear the sleeve during summertime in order to not get stuck with my arm on the guitar. I like when my arm can comfortably move and often the hot and humid weather makes it very difficult (also the sweat of the body can sometimes damage the polish of the guitar). The goal is to keep a comfortable position and avoid any tension or resistance in our playing. If you feel any discomfort or tension it might be good to review the sitting position.
