Nice video. I love how thoughtful you take these topics. I wonder what this experiment would look like if you passed the UV through Mylar like a Mylite 2. At one time I think they may have said they protect against UV, but I’m not sure they still make that assertion.

I'm just going to go on a hunch and say that you're probably going to need to ramp up production on this. And hopefully offer these in bulk. This has been a concern of mine for a while. I enjoy displaying some of my select books and I now know that, with time, a displayed 9.8, 9.6 or 9.4 becomes a 9.2, 9.0 or even an 8.5.

Question, so immacuslab doesn't bring down the UV to museum grade UV protection? It just minimizes it, so fading is slowed over time?

I picked up some comic capsules and you cannot bag and board silver and bronze books you have to put them in the capsule raw which I don’t care for.They work good on modern but you have to put the books in 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 boards and 6 7/8 x 10 1/2 bags to fit in the capsule which is tight and unfortunately I ruined a ASM#300 9.6 trying to stuff in the capsule.So I can send you one or two to do studies on.I’ll put it in the package going out to you tomorrow.

It’s not cheap. That plastic is somewhat expensive and it can’t be Thermoformed or sonically welded.

@@jreynolds8448 well sort of. None of the completely transparent thin films do much to block UV light. Permanently. They need to be about 2-3mm thick. Some think films do block uv for a short time but turn sir of opaque and lose their properties over time. The only permanent and clear solution is a thinker material like the stuff I use to make my protectors. It could go inside a case and would work just fine too!

@@ImmaculateComics They will straight up tell you in a CS call, no, our holders are not UV protected. I don’t understand what anyone thinks the difference is between a book that sits in an LCS window or a book sitting in a slab on your wall across from your window.

Nope. They are not seeking partnerships or improvements at this time. Well at least CGC isn’t. I have t heard back from CBCS. I think it’s only a matter of time before one of them “Invents” this idea themselves and works around me.

Anyone that’s been to Mile High comics will know that CGC books absolutely fade. Most of their high dollar (and massively overpriced) books have been sitting in the glass cases for so long that the harsh florescent lights have faded them significantly.

@@Fin-gj2thI’d love for them to regrade those books to show how much their greed and negligence has cost them. This is another example why buying graded books is such a risk. Whether it’s a scam artist, a grader having a bad day, or just pure owner incompetence, the book in the slab may or may not be what’s advertised.

Additionally we not know the cgc has taken steps to change their guarantee to absolve themselves of any liability. It’s really a guarantee in name only.

Much respect to you for the work you’re doing. EGS and PGX are both 🗑️ so fuck ‘em. Question; realistically how much UV light are slabs catching if they’re on the wall in a room with blackout curtains drawn 80% of the time and don’t face the window, in your opinion?

Well that’s a great question and the answer depends greatly on your lights. I’ll make another video showing this but most led lights have a surprisingly spike in the uv range that you can’t see. Fluorescent lights have it too to a smaller degree. Interestingly old fashioned incandescent bulbs don’t have it at all . Most indoor comics without continuous illumination won’t fade much it there are several ASM 300s out there that have faded “a little” in a decade. Not severe, but noticeable
