Holy hecc, easily one of the most fun tutorials that actually helped me grasp both material and geometry nodes a lot better! Thank you a ton!

I’m a complete noob, picked up Blender this week… I made it through and I have some awesome vases that I would have to repeat this tutorial to do again. I’ll hit up the rest of the tutorials and hopefully pick it up better. Great video though, I’m happy that this level of tutorial exists!

This was a tricky one in some of the later parts, with the node layout getting busier and busier, but the randomizers for hues was a incredibly fun variable to play with! Totally worth the work. I had to be very careful near the end as well, as my poor machine was slowing down considerably with all the nodes.
@The-Sentinel2 жыл бұрын
fantastic tutorial man. Would you be interested in doing a part 2 where you help break down the process for (1) solid color vases (2) adding handles or extra design geometry to them and (3) texture patterns to the glaze portion? Ornate pottery often has additional carvings and patterns in them. Would love to see this taken a step or two further as its so versatile!

I’m still fairly new to geometry nodes and a complete virgin to procedural modelling……I’m also currently creating pots in Blender, so this tutorial is awesome…..thanks so much for this!

8:30 - there's a merge by distance node!! Edit: Though I noticed in the bottom right you're using 3.0 and it may be a 3.1 node.

Yeah I found that too, thinking there must be a node for that but you're right, it's not in 3, only 3.1, I just checked.

When you mix a texture into the coordinate system it's best practice to use linear light mix mode, otherwise the center will drift

Great tutorial! Enjoyed it a lot! One thing though, when you say you are going to make it more procedural, I believe the correct word should be parametric. But I might be wrong.

Fantastic! Quick question - what if you want to add more stripes of colour in the glaze, is that feasible with this process? I experimented a little but quickly discovered that because the glaze-placement ramp is used over and over to determine thinks like the normal, and it's structured as a high-contrast 'mask', I wasn't sure how to add more complex ripples of colour to the glazed area. Maybe this process isn't intended for that, though!
@himan123456782 жыл бұрын
Instead of using color ramp for the colors, could use it to drive the factor of a mix rgb. To get stripes I'd probably use a wave texture to drive the factor of another mix that would then get plugged into the glaze slot of the mix driven by the color ramp. Hopefully that's not too confusing when written out like this.
@aethernaut18992 жыл бұрын
@@himan12345678 thank you! It's a little confusing, haha, but I'll try to figure it out, I appreciate it.
@aethernaut18992 жыл бұрын
@@himan12345678 Yes, this works perfectly! You can reuse the mapping coordinates to orient the waves texture the right way, going down the pots. You want a very low scale on the waves and some distortion.
@himan123456782 жыл бұрын
@@aethernaut1899 I'm glad it worked! Idk anything really about pottery so I wasn't sure if something like that would end up looking right or not. I've never used the wave texture so I'm unfamiliar with how it's oriented by default. I just know it's used for wood texturing mostly and roughly how it looks.
@kunalharmalkar44362 жыл бұрын
you can make it so you can draw the curve and it creates the pot (i did it)
@Excelsior19372 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why, but I don't have curve primitives as an option when I bring up that add menu with Shift A. My Menu has Attribute, Color, and then it skips down to Geometry. It seems to skip some other things too, like Instances.
