Thanks, this is so helpful! For the problem with the splines moving when you apply "Set Roots," setting the distance limit to 0 will keep that from happening.

Can I convert splines to hair right away? I have alembic hair export, but it loads as nurbs splines only.

im having an issue when i put the selection in the link tab and restore the position doesnt get restored :l

Sometimes you need to move the playhead forward 1 frame then back to get it to update.
