Check out this apocalyptic 3D animated short film called "Sumer" as for unknown reasons, the Earth"s ionosphere has weakened dramatically during the course of the last century, resulting in the collapse of the entire ecosystem. Earth has become an increasingly hostile and uninhabitable place and with no shield to protect it, it is at the full mercy of meteors.
All animal and plant species perished decades ago. All that remains is one small group of humans who attempt to resist the hostility and hardness of the external environment from SUMER, the last hive city in the world, which has been specifically designed to keep the population alive through oxygen supply systems.
The media manipulates the available information in a manner that is purposely designed to keep people obsessed on the potential of the space exodus, letting any hope of prevailing on earth go.
A young boy, Hermes, lives alone in a compartment, the property of the government, which is located close to the wall that delimits the city, an area that is highly guarded by the SSW (SUMER Security Watchers).
While observing the desert from the roof of a building, Hermes suddenly sees something that grabs his attention…
-------------------------------------------------------------------
In October 2014, SUMER started to be screened internationally throughout the festival circuit. It has been officially selected by more than 50 festivals, including the “Cleveland International Film Festival”, which is an Academy Qualifying Festival, and the prestigious “New Port Beach Film Festival”. Furthermore, SUMER has won 14 Festivals: Irvine Film Festival and Phoenix Comicon, among others.

I totally agree and it would be completely different from fallout because nothing is out there everything is gone except for the last group of human and the new plants and animals that are living the crater. Although it should probably be based further in the future, maybe a century or so later. I would totally play it but sadly it probably will never be a game.

@MrMartechi 8 жыл бұрын
+pereiramariana35 I think it is actually a very good way to tell that story. The pure "self destruction" of human civilization would not result in *one* big catastrophic event that kills everything at once (except when you're talking about nuclear warfare). Everything else is a long, slow process that would not decimate us, we are "too smart" to get killed by that. The real danger is, that these problems make us so unaware of our surroundings, that we'd not be able to react to outside or unexpected catastrophies.

Skelotor Skelotor we don't know how quickly all that sprung up. i think based on the crater where it was located, the meteors from the beginning could have brought alien life to earth or they could have brought elements that helped earth life burst quickly. people are bitching about plot holes like they want everything spelled out for them like they're fucking 5 years old. use your damn imagination!

Im pretty sure they never leave their posts at the city unless someone gets out, like the kid did. So from this we can infer that they don't explore outside and therefore wouldn't have found it because they weren't looking.

Not only was the narration at the beginning contradictory, but it was so pointless. I think at this point, you can allow us to assume that in a film where the Earth is a wasteland, something catastrophic occurred. Otherwise, very beautiful.

@parasiticshadow6028 8 жыл бұрын
+Skip Michael The meteor was close up, it was only the size of that crater, but the point was that it had life on which developed when it hit Earth. It wouldn't have been big enough to wipe out all life on Earth. And if what they claimed was true (all the trees had been cut down etc) then the world would definitely have ended up as a wasteland. Trees contribute too much to so many ecosystems that everything would simply collapse in a fatal domino effect.
@Silkendrum
@Silkendrum 8 жыл бұрын
+Skip Michael Quote from the description: "for unknown reasons, the Earth's ionosphere has weakened dramatically during the course of the last century, resulting _in the collapse of the entire ecosystem_. Earth has become an increasingly hostile and uninhabitable place and _with no shield to protect it, it is at the full mercy of meteors_ "(italics mine). The devastation came first, the meteors second. There is no contradiction in the woman's opening narration.
@Rubbermatt

+Silkendrum What absolute bollocks, the ecosystem provides no protection against solar radiation or meteors as it is today, if the ecosystem collapses it makes no difference at all to whether we get hit by a meteor or not.

Agreed. Little naturalistic touches, like the depth of blues and blacks in the moon-lit night, the "swimming" arm motion of the running policeman, the lighting and softened rough texture of the skin on the kid's cheek, the very slightly accelerated second head shake as the kid tries to clear his oxygen-starved vision.

Apocalypse Squid Yeah. That often happens just because "3d-workers" want to make something, what looks cool and could fill their portfolio, and their emptyness inside, while guys with good ideas - may look like nerds, but they are definetly not, when you'll know them better. In societies of those there's not enough people, who can make anything else creative, except the stories. Yeah. I'm talking mostly about the internet. At least, russian section of it. One creative side of it is full of people with mind-blowing ideas, and another side is full of talanted artists, ready to make anything possible for a mind to imagine into a project. But that's two completely different types of people, whose interests intersect very rarely. I've been on both of those sides. Ehem.

Seems like EVERY short sci-fi oriented CGI Animation lately has one theme: The world is doomed because humans are stupid. Can anyone come up with like maybe a new idea once in a while please? Other than that, as usual, the artistic quality is quite good. BLEH. I stopped caring about artist quality after the 1000th depressing Sci-Fi Animation. GFDSD FSDFS"I just saw this car smash into another car right in front of me!" Statistically speaking, witnessing a car wreck of any kind is very unlikely, the average human will see one minor collision in their lifetime, and half of them might see a major collision. So it's an unlikely story, yeeet there it is, a story.

"Self destruction" means two giant meteors?
@aickavon

Meteors hit Earth all the time, however they always get evaporated into nothing by the atmosphere. Now... imagine... If we humans would erode our atmosphere. Oh wait, we are. There are literally holes in our atmosphere right now .
@NeatGentilis
@NeatGentilis 7 жыл бұрын
You see... There was an atmosphere when the dinosaurs were around as well, lil buddy. Didn't do shit for them. If that isn't enough, those meteors are fucking huge. No amount of atmosphere is gonna burn them up enough. In fact, the first one alone would more than likely IGNITE whatever atmosphere we have left by that point in history. Then there would be none of your precious, "super-atmosphere" left to save whoever is unlucky enough to have survived.

Neat Gentilis You see... the rock that hit earth way back then was massive, and the rocks we're saying now could be any size. Remember that art takes advantage of perspective illusions. For example, if you look up at the sky and down at the ground, your perspective illusion is that the earth is bigger than the sun when it's quite the contrary.
@NeatGentilis

Dude. Did you even watch the video? The rocks are fucking huge, and you didn't even make a response to my second point. You're just jumping on the global warming bandwagon that this video is trying to ride as well. Fucking homestuck fans.

What a gripping story! I was pulled in by the spontaneous curiosity of Hermes and his rash decision to follow what could have been a hallucination or a dream. The dialogue of the mother telling her son about humans destroying their environment contradicted the visual of the asteroid causing the disaster, but that could be easily fixed, since it's only a voice over. I loved the stark city, the bizarre, bug-like helmets of the officers, and the crazy motorcycle. I'd love to see more and get deeper into the story. Why did they close the gates at night? Why no exploration of the surroundings? Is the bird real? If so, why don't the others see it. Nice work on the facial animation and distinction between the two officer characters.

"The dialogue of the mother telling her son about humans destroying their environment contradicted the visual of the asteroid causing the disaster, but that could be easily fixed, since it's only a voice over." There's already talk of using rockets and/or explosives to control asteroids (mostly to PREVENT them from crashing on earth) but the techniques could just as easily be used to make asteroids crash INTO earth, thus weaponizing them.

even on the moon with low gravity you are still dealing with mass and kinetic energy with distance and jumping from the top of high places...and breaking your leg or hip (or any other anatomical structure) on the moon would more or less be fatal..if it happened today at least
