Just so you don’t get confused, that girl is NOT a kitsune, she is a Chinese huli-jing (huli-jing means "fox-spirit" in chinese.) The story is based on Chinese mythology; men would fall for a woman who seduces and later tricks them, because she is a shapeshifting fox spirit. However, it is possible for huli-jing to be benevolent, but their "trickster" side is more heard of and therefore mistresses or generally bad women are often called "huli-jing" in China (which is sad because I love foxes and wish for the fox spirits to be known for the good.)

There’s so much here; 1. Unity is defined by a common interest. The replacement of that interest for one that can only benefit the individual self creates rivalry. 2. Kitsune is actually a bit of a blanket term for Japan's mystical foxes. While yako were known to take the guise of a fair maiden in order to trick and seduce humans, they didn't necessarily need 9 tails to do so, as shape shifting is a basic ability of all kitsune. There's also the Inari fox spirits to take into account, since as servants of the god agriculture and financial success were typically far more benevolent than their trickster cousins. That went on for a spell, but there is far more to kitsune than just tricky fox ladies

I once saw an actual kitsune in the western Tokyo neighborhood where I was living at the time. My wife and I had just returned late at night from a three hour road trip to see her family and as I was unlocking the front door of our house a beautiful red kitsune came sauntering down our street. She stopped frozen, front right paw in mid-step perfectly balanced as we made eye contact with each other for no more than two seconds, then she scampered off in the opposite direction. She was so beautiful she left me wondering what sort of vision it was I had seen that night. Kitsune are rare in Tokyo though they can be seen occasionally in the country villages along the mountains. She was like a vision of feminine beauty, I can easily see how men in legends past would have fought over such a creature.

They're most likely hunting her for her liver. Fox livers were supposedly magical when it came to healing illnesses. In both China and Japan and possibly Korea as well. A poster below with a lot of likes has the wrong description of kitsune. (Probably thinking of the daikini whores). This is the right description of kitsune. Kitsune are a type of youkai. (spirit, monster, demon) Kitsune could be beneficial or malevolent. But for the most part, they're trickster youkai. They take on the shape of attractive humans usually a female form because that's all we see and hear about and that's what's popular because it's males not females who came up with these myths. lol But I've heard (in folkore not anime) that it's more of male foxes usually become female humans and seduce the males of the human species. The Ookami game shows this with a male fox, Lord Ninetales (yes, it's a HE despite others saying otherwise) who devours a nun and then he takes on the form of the busty nun Tzururao (Rao) to trick the player. This part of the game alludes to the Lady Tamamo no Mae story of which I'm getting to. In the case with the legendary Tamamo no mae, she was a malevolent kitsune, she brought sickness to the emperor and eventually was shot and killed by 2 archer brothers. Her remains became what was called the killing stone (sesshou seki) and would kill anyone by it or cause sickness or misfortune. But as I've stated, not all kitsune are evil. A good fox example is the white fox Kuzunoha who was being hunted for her liver when she is then saved by the kind-hearted poet, AbenoYasunari(?) Which she married and gave him a son who became the legendary onmyouji AbenoSeimei. But she fled from her happy family after her fox form was found out by her husband. Now since this is Chinese and not Japanese, the correct term is not kitsune, but *hulijing*. Though she only has one tail and hulijing have 9 tails. The Korean version is called kumiho and they for the most part are demonic in nature. This one in the video is playful and cute and not demonic. I wouldn't want them to eat me/my liver which is most likely what happened back then in ancient China. There are still some beliefs to this day around the world about certain parts of an animal that is consumed (usually for a more of higher sex drive for men or something along those lines) believed to have magical powers if eaten.

I'm not sure about hulijing, as this is the first I've heard of them, but perhaps the same holds true? The shapeshifter in the short had three ribbon "tails" on the back of her outfit, and the endcredits scene at 6:20 showed that same outfit blending to become three tails (though there does appear to be a fourth, smaller tail outlined as a shadow where the three intersect; perhaps indicating she is close to gaining it?) Considering how young she appeared, it could very well be she isn't yet old enough to have all nine tails.
