A pre-production planner 3. A director 4. A CG Modeler 5. An Animator 6. A matte painter 7. A Match Mover 8. A Compositor 9. An Editor and Color Corrector so find tutorials on these subjects separately and them combine them if you can..........

or just Houdini nuke and Mari just as a question you do know that Maya and 3ds max do the same thing 3d with some particles and shit pyro/flip realflow is only for flip so no pyro or particles and after effects got kicked out of the industry by nuke.

actually you could do most in compositing there are websites like Linda or fxphd which will teach you if you want to do this kind of work start with nuke its the best compositing package right now if you can get into the mind set. blender is nice its free and there are a lot of tutorials on KZbin look up blender guro. ( Maya is similar to blender its very popular and has a lot of free tutorials but i personally cant stand the ui) if you want to do complex 3d, explosions, smoke, water, particles then Houdini is the way to go its very difficult but immensely powerful.

It's a combination of many softwares not just only one. After Effects and Nuke are just softwares for composting shots and vfx from another 3D softwares together. Mainly they use an in-house software developed by them.
