I disagree with this video. The most efficient way decrease the surface area to volume ratio is to increase the size of the shape rather than change it to a hexagon. The lines are the source of strength but the square pattern aligns the weakest lines alternating with the strongest lines. The square pattern also propagate forces along the lines, never dampening the forces until the squares bend enough to cease to be squares, unlike the hexagon that divides the forces in two again and again.
