I don't think this is a bad game. They have some good ideas, and there are creative minigames. I don't think this is a bad party game for the lack of using the gamepad enough. I would think the dev costs for quality titles that use the gamepad in minigames would be high, and Derrick is being unreasonable. Not all games have to use the Gamepad in spectacular ways. And the worst part is, he doesn't even bother with nearly all the features and modes of the game.

I love this game. It was really fun and I had my laughs. The previous game Wii Party was also really fun and I love it. The games are so underrated and need to be played in order to like it.

Personally I enjoyed both Wii Parties, but i feel since this was a new game they should have included ALL of the original games from the 1st game on the 2nd game. This would have given us a HUGE variety of games to play. The new ones feel really bland and boring the 5th time or so.

This is a multiplayer game, and in-case you didn't already know, the Wii U Gamepad was made for only one player while the others use Wii Remotes or Pro Controllers. So I personally wasn't surprised when I heard this game still uses the Wii remotes for multiplayer gaming. Though after seeing this review, I think I will check out the Gamepad Party games, just to see how much more fun they are compared to standard TV ones.

Originally I wasn't that interested in this game, but now it does look and sound like fun and so I'll consider it. The simple fact that it sounds better than Wii Party, which I have and enjoy, would be good enough for consideration.

Ironically, this game sold a lot of Wii U's in Japan when it was launched. It sure is last gen: But it's also cheaper, and comes with a controller.

Yeah, I think in japan the wii u sale percentage increased to slightly over 1000% this was more popular than super mario 3d world. this is such a surprising hit.

maxsayo I'm pretty sure a lot of those Wii-U purchases were in anticipation of Super Mario 3D World coming out soon. It has to be. There's no logical reason Wii-U Party should be more popular than Mario 3D World... it can't be true! X(

Relyt Llih Wii party U sold just under 80,000 units in japan, but it wasn't the fact that it sold 80k units. when the game came out in relation to its release week window, Wii U sales spiked to 40k sold in that time as well. When super mario 3d land came out the game only sold 99k units on its release week and wii u sale only went up to 21k sold in relation to that time for one cumulative week before dropping again. This was the lowest super mario sale in all of his historical franchises that were released prior. What I am trying to point out is that super mario 3d world was not a system seller it should have been and that wii party U sold a surprising amount of systems in relation to its launch. Currently in japan there are roughly 1.2milllion Wii U units purchased and owned since the Wii U's launch last year. these are just interesting numbers. I have no bias but I was surprised to see them. I got the numbers from gaming articles and news sites. Who knows why people bought it.

I can see parents and casual gamers getting even more confused about the Wii/Wii U difference from something like this. It also doesn't help that one of the newer Wii U commercials promoting it as a holiday gift have the kids referring to Wii U as a Wii upgrade. There's definitely going to be some confused parents and grandparents thinking they either already need a Wii to use a Wii U or that the Wii U is just an add-on piece.

Sadly, Nd Cube doesn't seem to be that good at party games. They made Wii Party, Wii Party U, Mario Party 9 and Mario Party Island Tour. And despite the fact that there should be a noticable difference between Wii Party and Mario Party (besides the characters), like the skill and strategy, that you needed in all the earlier MPs, that all 4 games are pretty much the same. A lot of minigames, some good some bad (won't complain about that) and pretty boring (mostly) complete luck-based boards that hardly last longer than 30 minutes. I'll still give them the chance to make a good MP10, but they shouldn't disappoint me again with luck based games... cause I'm not buying that.

It seems like it's just me, but I actually liked MP9 more than MP8. The minigames are way better and I like the faster pace of the boards. The only real problem I have with it is how easy it is to lose stars.

Most, if not all, of the employees at Nd Cube are old Hudson Soft employees, so it's no surprise to see that the quality of latter-day HS and Nd Cube's games are very similar. Mario Party Island Tour was bitterly disappointing to me for the same reasons you listed. Great mini-games, but too much luck-based to the point of being broken, and even SHORTER boards, some lasting 5-10 minutes. Zuh? lol

Nanofuture87 I agree, that MP9 has better graphics, better minigames and a nice additional difficutly setting. But for me, the board game ist really important and I just can't stand luck-based boards. That's why I already hated Bowser's Warped Orbit

I think. Nintendo should try more to appeal to hardcore gamers more. They already have the casual market wrapped around their finger so if they could appeal to BOTH crowds they could bury the competition

I enjoyed this game so much but I agree of your idea that I wish Nintendo made the gamepad the star of this game. I want the gamepad to be utilized more. But hey, me and my family had lots of fun with this. And I think that experience with them was really joyful. I'm thankful that Nintendo made games like this that a family can enjoy.

Regurgitating Wii games for the Wii U isn't going to get a lot of buyers for the system, especially when the system isn't priced along the same lines as the original Wii system was in its heyday.

i have a Ps3 gathering dust next to my WiiU that gets used more than the Ps3 ever got used, i have so many great games for the U i want to play them all at the same time, what shall i play now wonderfull 101, monster hunter, mario 3d, zombiu (which i've actually played the most) Batman AC, mass effect 3, Nintendoland and others, i still have Zelda sealed cos i know when i open that badboy....

That's actually a great idea! Sadly sony doesn't like the second screen features... They only use the PS vita for the off tv gameplay (Remote play)

Not the retrocompatibility per se, but the fact that games like these are made like a Wii game and require the Wii controller, which works if you already have a Wii, but for someone like me, who skipped the 7th generation of games and now have a Wii U, it just sucks because that means that in addition of buying a set of pro controllers I also need a set of Wii controllers if I want to play games like this one. It's great that they give different controller options for many games, but having a Wii U title that requires the controller from the previous console is totally the wrong way to go
