CGS Hydra ss suppressor review and customer service failures

My best friend and I both bought this can. They were locked shut. We reached out to cgs who told us to smash an o-ring under the front cap. It didn't work. Cgs refused to replace the end cap with an updated design. We ended up filing the teeth off one baffle to make the cap not lock into it.

My experience with CGS "customer service" was similar, but with a different product. They sat on my F4 for 3 months before filing it with the ATF (I had to reach out to them multiple times before they filed it), and then CGS held my can for another 3 months after the F4 was approved. It was only after I repeatedly reached out to them for a status that they informed me that they'd received the stamp 3 months prior. No explanation why, no apology. Nothing but very impersonal responses from them. Turned what would have been a ~9 month process into a 15 month one. CGS makes pretty good stuff, however, in my opinion they are not oriented towards the individual, but rather more interested in larger government prospects.

You’re not alone! Same experience here! I summed it up Carin spelled with a C for a reason! With a Hydra-AL and a Hyperion I will never go back or recommend CGS due to a very similar experience. AND they charge $100 for “lifetime warranty work” now plus $15 flat shipping and NM state tax. I’m done with CGS

I picked up mine Apr 28th of this year. They must've corrected this issue as it came with the thicker lipped end cap. I haven't had any issues with mine so far.

I had one same color, so I heat treated it with a torch, now the color is blueish green. Only heat treated the tube. All other parts where removed before heat applies.

I mean sucks they were rude about it, especially coming from a “Karren” but they weren’t wrong I would imagining they deal with a lot of rude people all day, (not saying you were being rude) People have bad days. Least they made it right and that is really all that matters not that people get there feelings hurt while dealing with them. Right or wrong? Just my 2 cents. Maybe I’m just trying to justify that I bought one of these before watching this video. 😂😂 Great video and honest review 👍

I’m halfway through the first email. I can’t believe they chose to go this direction with this! This is insane, I was going to buy this too but there’s other companies that know how to talk to people. “Should the item not be delivered here this information is valuable again to you.”. YYEEESHH The real problem is how good is CGS lifetime warranty if you have customer service experiences like this to tank the company?

Yes the baffle has to no be able to sink into the front cap the front cap has to be thicker

Even if you never have to use customer service it’s good to know what you can expect your evaluation of the product is right on and seemingly unbiased I don’t think I could’ve been as neutral as you were so that being said great review it seems like a great product but they’ve got some work to do in customer service department thank you for your candor dealing with this it’s refreshing to watch a video without all the bs 👍

I am currently on day 134 waiting to get approved for this silencer. This will be my first one, I thought it seemed like a good silencer to get started with. Hopefully I don't have the same issues you experienced. This is the first video on the cgs hydra with any negative input, but that's just the luck of the draw I hope and not a bad quality suppressor. How long did your approval take since you submitted all paperwork?

They are fantastic cans like I said it's great mine just came with a bad front cap or old design maybe even the wrong front cap not sure. I just want ppl to know the reality of my experiences

@independencearmschannel2170 my can is working pretty good, nothing sounds loose in it. My tx22 isn't cycling correctly with the can though. Maybe I need to sue a different type of ammo. I was using the cci quite ammo.

I had a bad customer service experience with the same person. They also shipped out my silencer without any notification or update on the status on their website. So it sat at my FFL without my knowledge.

Lmao. I have a Helios trying to remove the end cap to swap for their ported version. But that thing is on there. Emailed CGS, and guess who replied… saying send it in with the form4. Do you know a way to remove it?

Unfortunately CGS twerks their front caps on at like a ridiculous foot pounds 45 or 90 or 120 or something like that so unfortunately unless you can put it in a vise to break it free you're going to have to send it in

I could barely understand the first email. Lack of format, punctuation, etc. From their standpoint, it sounds like you bubbad up the can with a multi tool and need help. It sounds like you wanted your hand held throughout this. In the business world, people are busy. If I send something back, and it says “delivered” with proof of delivery, there’s nothing else to do. You wanted a confirmation response? Nobody does that with anything, in my experience. I have no affiliation with CGS whatsoever. Just looking at this from an unbiased perspective.

Agreed. IMO, her response was hilarious. I love it when someone finds the time to win the game of being petty and unnecessary. However, I don't feel like this was the nicest way to handle Bubba, and his feelings of it are totally valid too. He was attempting to be detailed and looking for follow-through and throughput and not getting that in return. Just a funny exchange from the outside looking in.

I have the same can. I may have missed it in the video but what was the fix? A different end cap material or is it still aluminum? Were you cranking the end cap down during reassembly? I watched this video and immediately took mine apart. Seems odd that they didn’t leave the last baffle without locking tabs and it is kind of weird the cap is aluminum.

The fix was a different end cap design it's still aluminum just thicker around the edges

I’m not excusing the poor reply you got from CGS, but the poor spelling and grammar of your contact with them probably didn’t help you. Here’s my trick: type your message in a word processing program like Word and then paste it into those stupid contact forms. At least then you’ll have it spell checked and can read it, even if pasting it in will screw up the formatting a bit.

This isn't the first time I've heard stuff like this. Man, wow. I have 4 CGS cans - I love how they perform, but after seeing this I won't be buying another. I was considering the Hyrda vs the Dead Air or Q, but it looks like it's not going to be the Hydra. Not sure why these folks have a stick up their ass about this.

Had to deal with Carin a few years ago. Sucks you can’t call anyone. She had a awful attitude in general. My siren 22LR has failed twice, whatever adhesive they use to hold the tube to the steel end doesn’t last more than 20 rounds. Begged for a replacement or different model. I gave up, the can is in pieces at my SOT. One day I’ll send it back to them to be destroyed. They suck
