Should you bake a 4k HDRI map instead? Or it will bring up again the render time? (Great tuts by the way! )
@NelsonJunior07
@NelsonJunior07 3 жыл бұрын
I think that when you use the baked HDRI, the final image lost some of AO (look at the shadows on the face of the model). But that's amazing after all!

5:19 May I extend on this with a more general approach? "The panoramic camera should be at the center of the object you want to light, as that object might not necessarily be at the center of the scene." Other than that great tutorial :)
@IamMrkay
@IamMrkay 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah juist like you would a really HDRI with an actual camera
@CGShortcuts
@CGShortcuts 3 жыл бұрын
Problem is that the HDRI Environment cant be moved from the center of the world so your lighting wont match up. You can only offset the texture map
@pixelasm
@pixelasm 3 жыл бұрын
@@CGShortcuts Ah yes that is indeed correct, either way baking a light setup makes most sense for product shot like scenes with the main subject in the center.
@cerpow

You can maybe try and offset all scene objects to have statue right in the scene center?

The math involved in rendering this is different and it shows. i guess it can be handy when you have to get something done with a stupid deadline, but it's better to work on not getting in a situation like that instead of learning tricks like this.

Hi Dave. Thanks for this video and the previous one about tips for quickly render with Octane. To tell the truth, I didn't understand this trick for the HDRI map. We took extra 20 seconds to make the HDRI map + 10 seconds for the new render with an HDRI map instead of area lights. But before this trick, we have waited only 22 seconds for the whole render. 30 seconds with HDRI map instead of 22 seconds with area light (and I'm not talking about time to prepare the scene for an environment render). So, where is the benefit?
@ibotpl
@ibotpl 3 жыл бұрын
joking? i hope so. if not: just think of rendering animations with hundreds of frames. it would take less than half.
@Andreygaposhyn
@Andreygaposhyn 3 жыл бұрын
@@ibotpl usually, I work with animated lights, so I need to prepare a seqence for hdri light
@ibotpl
@ibotpl 3 жыл бұрын
@@Andreygaposhyn it should be quite obvious that this method would not work (at least not as intended) when you animate lights. Your original comment makes even less sence now.
@Andreygaposhyn
@Andreygaposhyn 3 жыл бұрын
@@ibotpl Let's talk about static lights and morph cameras. Do you know how to use this trick in this situation? I just try to find a useful situation for this trick. In most cases, you will change the lights position or using camera morph between 2-4 cameras. In my practice, shots with only one camera and static lights are rare situations. Probably you have another experience
@ibotpl
@ibotpl 3 жыл бұрын
@@Andreygaposhyn yeah, as i said; this isn't an ideal method for you, then. You can, however, still animate the rotation of the hdri sky itself. For me, this method has one big advantage; you can create your own studio lighting hdrs, which you can use in every other 3d software with exact the same lighting.

so you only offset your scene because you had a floor? would you need to do the same thing if you didnt? say a close up shot with a black background?
