The same Gander that miraculously filled the ground up with international arrivals during 9/11. Amazing folks.

At least it wasnt snowing in Gander that day. When i was in the british army we were flying from Germany to BATUS, and had to have refuelling stop at Gander on the way, we were told it would be "slightly chilly", we werent expecting 4 inches of snow😂

Gander can get a lot of snow. I have used my snowmobile to get to work on more than one occasion.

@billbarber9840 Scarpe, 8008. You were my section commander. I saw you again a couple of times after that. Once in Edmonton after your first operational jump and then again in Trenton in I guess around 2000, 424 family day I'm thinking. You were in the FD at that point.

Many years ago, we had a Cormorant Heli hover over the Winter Harbour wharfhead for 20 minutes waiting for a sport fishing boat with a back injured person. They came down on the line with stretcher, put him in the basket, up and off to Campbell River. Great to have this equipment and personal 😉🇨🇦

After flying in that soup for years, I bet you're looking forward to retirement and flying tourists in the Bahamas :) Good content Matt. Thanks to YT, we can now watch so much awesome stuff that we'd never ordinarily see. Subbed.

I can't imagine really imagine doing something else, at least not yet. Tourist flying? The heat? Sounds boring. Much more fun to snowmobile to work and go fly in a storm.

These videos have been great! Do you generally have two crews on at all times? If both crews are tasked would a third be called in?
@mattfrom103Ай бұрын
The simplified version is: 1 crew at a time, another crew taking over in 12hrs or less. Very rare that 2 crews are flying at the same time but it does happen.

Not quite. It's definitely nice to able to roll a stretcher on and off.

@mattfrom103, I used to work at New South Wales here in Australia almost 20 years ago and remember when the state government decided to buy some AW139 helicopters (yay!), but to save money they chose not to get them with air conditioning (boo!). Brilliant move (not) when you consider how hot it gets here in Australia during summer (forecast to be 42C today)! This decision meant restrictions had to be placed on their flying hours and in what temperatures they could operate due to safety concerns for crew and patients. Looks like you guys got a great aircraft. I believe the new AW139 in service now do have air conditioning!

@@matthewb9824 Ya, I can't imagine not having AC. It gets to 30C here with very high humidity. Being in that greenhouse of a cockpit wearing an immersion suit without AC would be unbearable.

No set speed but generally somewhere in between 20-30kts.
