Ch. 5: Set up a loom with me | From finished warp to starting to weave

A straightfoward process of my setting up my rigid heddle loom! Definitely missing the floor looms I used to weave on, but I'm excited to see how this fall-themed warp turns out. A more relaxed video than in the past (with some ASMR vibes). I hope you enjoy!

Hello, Mary Kate, I do see what you said about dressing a loom being like yoga, but i really have to be in right mindset to do it. So, with the warp you have there, as i am right now, i would be completely overwelmed. All the more do I enjoy watching you dressing the loom in these gorgeous colours. That’s honestly the best practical showing I’ve seen on how to warp a loom! I have a similar one that I haven’t set up yet as I was unsure how! I just need to get (or make) a warping mill and decide what I want to weave! Thanks for sharing your method!

I'm glad this was helpful! Getting started can be pretty confusing for sure. If you're interested, I follow the Curly-n-Yarny channel, and she talks about her rigid heddle loom quite a bit including some warping and a bunch of project ideas. I'm just getting started so I don't have many resources to offer (though I'm happy to answer questions), but that channel is awesome and I think she's so sweet.

idk why I'm so shocked the comb works to separate the yarn without catching on each fiber within each strand, but that was so satisfying.

Very intriguing...using a men’s hair comb to straighten out the warp. I love the colors in the warp. Did you dye that yourself?

Thank you! Sometimes we gotta make do with what we have, yeah? I did dye the warp using reactive dye; I talk about the process in the video just before this, if you want to check out what that looked like :)
