It honestly doesn't look like any of those horses are soared. A key characteristic of soaring is the spider crawl aka "big lick". That's where the horse throws his front legs forward so high and far out that his back legs have to come almost under his shoulders to support the flying front hooves. Their back ends drop down and their heads bob so much that they almost look like they're head banging. These horses are not soared in my opinion for whoever was wondering.

+Delaney Richardson Saddlebred gaits are completely different from Walking Horse gaits. The long-reach by a Walking Horse's hind legs is a characteristic of the breed, and will be seen even in walking horses that have not been trained for show. Saddlebred action both front and back is vertical, while Walking horse action is more horizontal, especially in back, with the hind foot stride reaching beyond the last hoofprint of the front foot. Both breeds have their natural and beautiful characteristics that have been abused by humans in order to achieve some exaggerated forms that are seen in the show ring. Soring with chemicals is not common in Saddlebred horse, but there are other abuses--most obvious of these being the cut tails.

It's the stacks, don't you get it? Stacks on the front hooves force an abnormal gait and massive strain on the back, back legs, tendons, etc. Rescuers constantly find big lick horses at the auction, run down, with burst tendons and destroyed hooves at a young age. Sometimes if a front boot comes off- the whole hoof comes off. They are still cutting nerves in the tail- abominably painful and destroys the horses ability to keep flies off. And once they glue on stacks they have to stay stalled. Some of these horses never play or see daylight for years. And once they are done making money for the owners, they ship them into the slaughter horse pipeline.
@asrotties

@@Elysian777 Saddlebred horses do not wear stacks. Tennessee Walkers wear stacks to achieve what they call the Big Lick. They are wearing Quarter boots here which are put on to protect them from over reaching or striking their feet. They are taken off after the ride. If you go to a Saddlebred farm and see the babies trotting free in the fields you will see they are very lofty horses, naturally. Just like any athlete, conditioning, training will increase it on the horses that have the most natural talent. Saddlebreds are governed by the same body as the United States Equestrian team. None of the abuses that happen in Tennessee Walkers would be allowed.

Nicking is sometimes performed on breeds (e.g., saddlebreds) for which show standards reward the tail being carried erect rather than lying flat. The practice may have developed for the same reason as docking, to keep the tail clear of harnesses. However it is now performed only for showing/cosmetic reasons.12 Nicking involves an incision and, in rare cases, serious or fatal complications have been reported due to infections resulting in peritonitis.13 As nicked tails will naturally settle back into a relaxed position, these horses often wear ‘tail sets’ to hold the tail erect. While wearing this equipment horses need to be stabled individually. Veterinary objections to this procedure can be found in publications as early as 185514 (“It is a surgical operation, but no respectable veterinarian would recommend it”).
@ceilingunlimited-cp5kq

Nicking is hardly done at all anymore since most Saddlebreds today now wear cap wigs and or a cap wig with a switch,that gives the same high set long tail look. The cap wig can be worn with or without what’s called a humane tail brace (you can Google that if you’d like to see what one looks like) ALL Saddlebred’s are in full compliance of the HPA under USEF and licensed Veterinarian’s.

Watching five-gaited Saddlebreds always makes me feel un-coordinated. I have no idea how they do it! And from what I've heard from friends who own them, soring would be impossible and impractical on a Saddlebred, which is far more hot-blooded than the Tennessee Walking horse.

You could watch a video of a racking horse in a slow-motion sequence, by this you would have the proof that it isn't a mix. It is the same gait in elephants which don't trot or canter I think because they are too heavy: left hind-leg goes down, after that left fore-leg, after that right hind-leg and then right fore-leg, left hind-leg etc. etc. etc.

Well the type of bits used is dependent on how the horse was trained, THEY ARE NOT QUITE SEVERE. Bits are only tools and only as good as the hands of the person using them. Can they be severe sure but that says a lot about the trainer not the horse. They maybe be a straight curb and a mullen mouth snaffle which is not severe per say but again depends on the hands of the rider. Many Saddlebreds are ridden with the lightest touch---fingertips!
@Shoreseeker2
@Shoreseeker2 7 жыл бұрын
Well Anna I guess it is a matter of your perspective yes? And I am sure it is a matter as how the horses you rode where trained. I do not consider a mullen mouth snaffle a severe bit nor do I consider a straight curb a severe bit so tell me what you have been riding. I have trained many horses not just Saddlebreds. Bits are just tools and anyone bit can be severe if the rider does not understand how to use them correctly----they are just a means of communicating to the horse nothing else!
@Shoreseeker2
@Shoreseeker2 7 жыл бұрын
Well Anna I am glad your ASB is doing well with Dressage very nice no question. Riding horses and training horses has everything to do with your perspective----your perspective is your reality no question! What if I told you I trained horses to perform with nothing on them, no bridle, no saddle? So you see it is your perspective in how you can communicate with the horse, you think one way and then you perform that way---right or wrong! What if I told you a worked a 5 gaited stallion and never made contact with the bits, just held the reines? You have been riding ASBs for nearly 15 years, well I am glad you love the breed no question they are my favorite also. I have trained all types of horses from many breeds and even trained a dressage trainer.

yennifer Not 100% on why damaging an animals legs would result in back damage or ‘back breakige’ whatever that is. Also, these horses aren’t sored at all because soring is only used on Tennessee Walking Horses to exaggerate the gait known as the ‘Big Lick’ which is impossible for the American Saddlebred to perform. Please educate yourself.
@cal6452

yennifer How about you go to a damn Saddleseat barn and learn yourself. How about you do some research. I live and work in this industry. You know nothing. You’re an uneducated idiot if you think this is the breed that’s sored. Tennessee Walking horses and American Saddlebreds are two extraordinarily breeds. It would be pointless to sore a Saddlebred because it WOULDN’T DO ANYTHING. Soring is ONLY used to exaggerate a gait called the BIG LICK. Which is IMPOSSIBLE for a SADDLEBRED HORSE TO PERFORM. These horse can walk, trot, canter, rack and slow gait. They cannot perform the Big Lick because it is physically impossible. Why don’t you protest this where it is actually happening instead of creaming yourself in a comment section about AMERICAN SADDLEBREDS which are not TENNESSEE WALKING HORSES. There is a five gaited horse where I ride that is not sored. She doesn’t even have shoes on yet she still performs just as well as these horses. This high step is 100% natural. You know nothing about the Saddlebred industry so stop pretending like you do.

Cal i understand and know that there are horses that naturally lift they legs higher and it is very beautiful. i hope u are right that the horses that are performing aren't abused but some horses maybe even all are abused which make me very sceptical of horses lifting there legs high. i did not mean to offend u if i did i just want to warn people that abuse can be held in these places.

I had a Morgan, a normally shod Morgan he wasn't overshod to make him rack, he showed in huntseatAnd why must saddle bred people sore their horses, over shoe them, break their tails ect all to make them "showy". Arabian people feel the need to completely shave their horses faces and bodies then lube them all up. I just don't get it. I didn't like what some Morgan breeders did to get their gaited horses to rack, so I left the breed and got a Dutch Warmblood to do show jumping, dressage and eventing. No high shoes, soreing or tail manipulation and he had a gorgeous passage and piaffe and huge extended trot he floated! Now that's my kind of naturally beautiful horse!

+EquestrianEquitation ASB's have to shift some of their weight on to the hind legs to drive forward and be able to lift their front legs. Also they tend to be wide and muscular in the front, which acts as a fulcrum for the lower leg to be raised up on each stride. If you over do it with shoes it actually interferes more.
@hannahwiseman7321

+canterwood equestrian centre They do not burn the hooves. A horse with burned hooves would show soreness at the trot and not be square. As all saddlebred horses have to perform a square trot in the show, that would make soreing completely counter-productive. I'm not saying it can't happen, but the horses that are in these shows, on top of being drug tested, are not sored.

Heather Blakeway To repeat why Dog said, this isn’t dressage. However, I do agree with you. This happens to me a lot in the show ring too (I’m a Saddleseat rider) and it’s very, very annoying. As far as I can understand, it’s to throw you off, but I never do this to anyone myself. Saddleseat shows and classes can get pretty nasty and competitive. You get run up on and cut off a lot too. I actually find it pretty annoying.

+Little Miss Sunshine lol they aint natural ^^ they have been bred to run like that. their are also about 20 different horse breeds who have been bred to 5 gait horses... just as cruel as for the tennesse horses and saddle bred. people mostly talk bout the cruelty owners do to the feet.soaking them in oil and other painfull nasty shit, wich is normally used for tennesse horse but also saddlebred, it ocours less to saddlebreds. but the abuse does not stop there. since all most 5 gaited horsebreeds (such as saddlebred and tennesse walking horse ) are bred to stretch out, keep their hindlegs low and put their heads way up high. this is the most painfull position for a horse to be, yet even support a rider in that position. if you cant see the pain you are beyond help... ive seen a million of those horses. and all the same, pain ,pain ,pain!! people dont see it or dont wanna see it because it is a "tradition". its sick in my eyes...

CoolLikeGrass their “ heavy shoes” aren’t that heavy, Ive picked one up and was like :00. As for the artificial crap. I’m guessing you mean the slow gait and rack? They are chosen as a foal if they can, cause not all can. Most are 3 gaited, I rode three gaited. If you look at videos of foals trotting you can CLEARLY see how they arch their neck and pick up their legs up high. Some or higher than others, my mare wasn’t really that high but she made up for it with her arching neck. My trainer even told me multiple times when I was riding other horses that not all horses can arch their neck like my mare. I’ve only ever ridden a 5 gaited horse like maybe 5 times? It was weird but she seemed excited to do it since I barley got the word sl- and she was off.
