Other than all of these your great VDOs, one thing that I really really really like about your VDOs are all your beautiful soundtracks of them. These beautiful background soundtracks always totally make your VDOs much more interesting and charming to be watching again and again and again. Thanks so much, Rick.

Hello Steve, a tip of the hat to you for reminding us of the issue of civil liberties! The western world in particular needs to reflect and recall just how much the French and all who followed fought for such with blood sweat and many tears and especially now as they are being robbed from us in real time!!! Your channel has become a bastion of sanity for me and I imagine many other in these terribly troubling times so thanks Steve and keep on keeping on 😉

I dont want to sound like a jerk, but has there ever been a time in history when things were not "terribly troubling" ? Is it just our awareness that limits us from noticing things are and have always been bad.

The way Napoleon viewed/ remembered in America vs the UK is one of the most striking differences between our very similar cultures. The UK thought of him as a rival and he's still ridiculed - just look at Time Bandits depiction of him as being insecure and a bit incompetent. Here in America we see him as a competent ruler and dare I say maybe even admirable

The best château should be Chambord. You didn't mention the design of the staircase, a double helix attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. The most interesting to visit in Fontainebleau is actually the forest.

Simple beauty ? Acknowledging the fact that these places just look beautiful doesn't mean supporting the political system which allowed them to be built.

Every beautiful thing in this world is fundamentally vain. Yet, it's those unnecessary things we can't help but admire, because that what makes them special. Surely, even you can't pretend you prefer soviet architecture, or any communist architecture, devoid of any excess, any fantasy. And in the end, devoid of life.
