The dance with the 4 bamboo poles that they are practicing is called Singkil, a dance from one of the Muslim tribes in Mindanao. The dance with the 2 bamboo poles when they are having fun in the park/playground is called Tinikling, a dance that originated from the eastern part of Visayas.

@@CHACHIICHANreacts the steps as well as the rhythm are different. singkil originated from the southern part of the country while tinikling is from the central part. Singkil's counting is 1 2 3 1 2 while tinkling is 1 2 1. Tinikling is faster paced while Singkil has a noble feel to it. The costumes are different too. Tinikling is danced during fiestas while Singkil is sort of a courtship ritual between royalties.

I watched a Pinoy historian talk about the dance they rehearsed in the video. The dance is called “Singkil” which is a royal dance from the south of the Philippines. The authentic version of the dance had a very unique story: the Queen was abducted by and evil Diwata (which is an ancient diety) in the forest. The 4 bamboos in the dance and the girl dancing in and out of it represents the Queen escaping and jumping over the fallen trees that was set by the evil Diwata to capture her. The King or the Prince was supposed to save her, but the Queen ended up saving herself… and THATS a powerful Queen 👑💅 she don’t need no man to save her. The Singkil dance they did in the MV is the popular and romanticized version of it, but not the authentic version of it. The popular and romanticized version of it is mostly catered to the western audience, as explained by the historian.

The first part of the dance is yes Singkil(its a royalty dance from the south) so the princess and the prince should be present. Mid part on the park, they are dancing Tinikling-a rural dance from the East(fast paced and jolly). I used to dance both although I really did not got my feet hurt. What hurts most is being the bamboo pole clapper. If the dancers stepped on the pole you know what happens to your fingers. And the part where you said “they’re hand movements are elegant”. Those are actual filipino folk dances incorporated to their choreography.

I always comment this: Alamat are ambassadors and educators, so basically Magiliws are students of Alamat. With its viewers, including Filipinos and non-Filipinos, Alamat hopes to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Filipino heritage and culture. They are getting ready for a school performance in this MV. The story and lyrics are about longing for the girl even though she doesn’t see the guy just yet. The reason the girl in the music video continued in the unhealthy relationship was that she didn't see her value herself in the same way that Alamat does. The girl chose her abusive and manipulative boyfriend at the end of the video, but the lyrics say "I won't get tired," so the story doesn't really end there because the guy is still waiting. The culture of the Maranao people is being showcased here. (Maranao means "lake people"). All of the performers have a story, but this MV only focuses on the Royal Princess and Prince. When translated to English, the lyrics of Alamat's songs may appear to be ordinary (e.g Queen and King), but in actuality, they often use rare and archaic Tagalog words (e.g Maharani, Lakambini, and Lakan) that are not commonly understood by many Filipinos today. 1. The guy in the motorcycle is Migo Valid, a singer-songwriter and actor under Viva Entertainment. 2. Jhoanna’s headdress is called a Sarimanok, a legendary bird from Maranao culture. (Sari - different colors, Manok - rooster/hen) 3. The outfits’ designs are influenced by illustrations from the late sixteenth century Boxer Codex which show how prior to Spanish colonization, gold was lavishly used by the archipelago’s various ruling classes in their clothing. Their neckties have the Maranao weaving patterns. 1:45 It's part of the courtesy before starting the dance, they bow down sitting and do the routine courtesy. 5:27 Hapihabi means Hapi - happy and habi - weave. 10:33 I think it's them, not sure tho
