Hello. Bavarian here. Pretzels don´t come with mustard. Only tourists buy (and maybe eat) pretzles with mustard. Don´t know where this myth comes from. Btw: great job. It seems you´re doing your traveling a bit different. Spend time at a park, watching people, learning how to bake Apfelstrudel, soaking in lifestyle. It´s not uncommon for Munich people to go to work until 4 PM then buy a bottle of beer and enjoy the rest of the day in the English Garden... just as you did. But on a daily basis. Really many restaurants cook (meat and sauce...) from scratch. Not only the fancy expensive ones, but also many smaller restaurants on the country side. Just drive to a village and ask people for a basic traditional restaurant. (for sure there also are many restaurants that use some "powdered" sauce/gravy.

*Where did you get this from? I'm born in Munich-Nymphenburg and live since then in Munich-Schwabing and, of course, you eat the Münchner Weißwurscht ( Munich white sausage ) with sweet mustard and a Münchner Brezn [Munich pretzel] . This is the traditional combo. This is normal.* 🥨🍺

It is such fun to follow you both vicariously around the world! The morning pint is called “Frühschoppen”. Traditionally people meet in the local pub on Sunday mornings after church. It’s a treat. This is an ancient tradition rooted in the time when water was infested with all kinds of waste and dangerous to drink. Beer was an everyday beverage for the whole family. And no, they didn’t get drunk because they did hard physical labor to get by. Germany has very strict beer laws dictating the beer’s purity called “Reinheitsgesetz”. No chemical additives!
@Brainreaver795 ай бұрын
and an important side note.. the beer of those days,.. wasnt that strong. it was pretty light on the alcohol.. at least the beer meant to be drunken as water replacement.
@realulli4 ай бұрын
@@Brainreaver79 the beer you're talking about had about as much alcohol as the standard American beer today... around 2%. Other than that, beer is considered a basic staple in Bavaria.

What I really love about your videos is that you often take the time to enjoy places and the atmosphere. Lots of travel videos show the Creators hustling and bustling around the most touristy places, not even taking time to take a deep breath. I am sure you know what I mean. And yes, of course you also visit touristy places...... that is what tourists do. :) But you often take the time to take a step back and discover more than only the " top 3 sightseeing spots". Btw., you can find beergardens all over Germany, not only in Bavaria. In some regions they will be more rare and look a bit different. Sometimes they are only sort of a "big garden" at the property of a restaurant, but they exist in most parts of Germany. And it is a typical US American thing to eat Bretzeln with mustard. We usually eat them just as they come, with nothing. Or we cut them in the middle, spread butter and put the halves together again....... and sometimes, only sometimes add a slice of cheese. That's it. The important thing is, that they are fresh, even still a bit warm.......then they are the best. And .. erm... we never ever remove the crust! :)

as a real bavarian guy living near munich let me tell you, you can eat the Weißwurst with skin or without. its a 50/50 thing. i prefer to eat my Weißwurst with skin and sweet mustard. if you stay longer in bavaria, its also nice to visit other smaller bavarian citys and traditional restaurants, cause munich prices are very expensiv. you can get in another citys the same quality and traditional food for half price. in my town you get Weißwurst and Brezel very cheap. and we eat it for breakfast. before 11 o clock. i saw you eat it with normal mustard. but you should really only use sweet mustard for it. nobody in bavaria eat it with normal mustard. you paid 30 Euro for Schweinshaxe^^. Go to another bavarian town. you got the same for 12-15 Euro. They rip you off. 30 way too much for Schweinshaxe

When I was in Stuttgart a few years ago in the spring, my favorite place to spend time was at their beer garden in the middle of the main city park. Just as you described, it was full of all kinds of people all day long and there was a feeling of warm, coziness, friendliness, and belonging aka Gemütlichkeit, that was just so wonderful. It's a community center where groups meet up, friends gather, office workers take their lunch break, kids and families play. Just lovely! So glad you got to enjoy that kind of place, too.

The myth how the Weißwurst/ white sausage was created was explained to me like this. The Munich court butcher, or Hofmetzger, was a highly coveted title handed to only the best butchers who actually supplied the Bavarian court. Similar to other crafts with the prefix Hof- in it they were selected for their exceptional quality (like the famous Hofbräuhaus, the court brewing house, literally). The myth goes that the court had ordered smoked veal sausages. No matter the reason, be it a forgetful butcher himself, a lazy apprentice, or even a died smoking fire the sausages were not smoked. As these sausages were stuffed into their casings very early in the morning, or rather at night, the uncooked veal sausages had hung in the smoker unsmoked for several hours. At that time no fridges had been invented yet, so smoking as a preservation method was essential, otherwise they could spoil withon hours, or at the latest the next day. However a whole trolley cart of veal sausages was quite an investment for the butcher. As he couldn't send unsmoked sausages to the court he decided to sell off the 'failed stock' to his regular customers with the strict admonishment to consume them lightly sauteed before noon, otherwise they might be spoiled. The customers liked the taste, so came back and demanded more, until the king heard of this new delicacy. And the rest, as they say, is history.😊 That's why it is still traditional to eat Weisswurst before the first bell of noon.
