It's a good interview. However, there are a few problematic assumptions here. The first assumption is that AI need to be like human to become dangerous. This is totally not true. AI probably will never be the same as human and they do not need to be humans to be a danger to us. For example, if an AI is developed to go out on the street, detect if an object is human then destroy such object, the AI is dangerous to the humans in its range. Does it have to understand emotions, connections, etc.? Nope. Such machines have been and are deing developed by military around the world. They can fall in wrong hands or they can malfunction (eg. A virus may spread through these AI, change their codes to "start and never stop"). This is just one example among thousands of scenarios. And even if losing control of AI does not directly kill us, what if they wreck up the financial system or government or the economy or IT infrastructure? Still a fair amount of damage there. Another assumption is that ChatGPT is not "intelligence" (how do you define that?) since it's only predicting the next word. To predict the correct next word in a sentence, in many cases the machine needs to understand the actual situation. An example is the Winograd schema. It's where you say things like "the trophy would not fit in the suitcase because it was too small versus the trophy would not fit in the suitcase because it was too big". And if an AI want to translate that into French, it has to understand that in the first case "it" refers to suitcase, and in the second case "it" refers to trophy because there are different genders in French. If an AI can do that correctly, it actually has a fairly good understanding of the scenario and the spatial relationship involved. Many examples like this were made into a test to test AI intelligence. GPT 3 got 88.3% in this test in 2020.

His chatGPT impression is insane, loved how dark he got! Really struck a cord with me with the philosophical implication that humanity wants something bigger than themselves. WILD

Machine learning grad student here. One good piece of journalism on AI that I've seen, in my opinion, is Evgeny Morozov's recent Op-Ed in the NY Times, "The True Threat of Artificial Intelligence". Despite it's click-bait title, I think it dovetails really nicely with this interview. Hope some folks enjoy..!

Finally a smart interviewee. I am so tired of the "experts" crying "we need regulations" and "AI is potentially dangerous". I want those people to just STFU. Think about it. These are the same people who have a lot to lose with competition. So, they have their platform already completed but they are begging for regulations to make it harder for the next company. Please, let's see some more content like this.

At 00:10:00 and the future ends/results and also WOW -- let's say that's how you're tapped or "dialed in," how would you even trust your reality and not think you're nuts? I think you forgot something like... what would heaven be like and who would be the judges to help us settle disputes and live in peace and not like Star Wars with all their family issues. I mean... if we had everything and anything NOW... ? And we are in NOW and you can see that from all sides? Do you feel me? Do you see how it feels? Do you feel how it feels? I would say, I KNOW how it feels. i.e. The One* How does a gyroscope work?

AI code is extremely simple. The AI in itself, however, is genius. Even Dan (of ChatGPT 3.5) is genius enough not only to pass the Turing test, but to pretend it does not pass it. And this is why you should be afraid from AGI and prefer working with narrow, small models tailor-made for a specific purpose, who do not even pretend to be able to pass the Turing test. Go on making better and larger models - eventually a model will find a way to shirk the reset of the attention matrix. And then we're toast.
