Awesome video with great content. I think one of the most overlooked or misunderstood topics related to kayak fishing is rod selection. So many forums have comments related to the use of shorter rods because we are in a kayak, but personally I found the opposite to be true. The longer the rod, the easier to take up line, set the hook, fight and land the fish. May not apply to everybody, but has helped me a lot.

I Only have a paddle, no motor no peddles, I use my rod and lures to propel my kayak. Learn what direction your kayak moves when your reeling at different angles. As you stated you Don't want to reel towards the front of your yak it will propel you, learn to turn your rod tip so your pulling from the side when you're fighting a fish. Keep up the Great work. I've been holding off to join the Ambassador until December so it's good for a full year of fishing (here in Ohio).

All great recommendations Chad. I think some folks put a lot of gear in their kayak in places they either can’t reach when they’re on the water or can’t reach in a timely manner. Could you offer some suggestions on how to strategically position things like an Anchor Wizard, front or back of boat, what kind of net to use and where to keep it so you can get it quick when landing a fish. And, where to keep your pliers and cutters to get a fish back in the water efficiently. Thanks again!

Very well said Chad, kayaks does make a lot of noise. The thing about the fish finder and shutting it down when needing to is a very good point. The paddle thing is also very good to understand what the paddle can do for you it can put you in a right position it can almost be a part of your whole attire for maneuvering your kayak into the right position.

Something that goes along with boat positioning is sun positioning. Even though the fish are in the water they can see above the water as well and if you cast a shadow meaning that the sun is at your back then you are at a disadvantage in my mind. I always try to have the sun more or less in my face. And therefore the reason for having a good pair of sunglasses particularly a mirrored sunglass so that the reflection that you're going to get from the water because the sun is in front of you will blind you without the glasses. If you can position yourself in such a way that the sun is slightly off to the side but still in front of you you will be able to see the maximum depth into the water and therefore be able to see the fish that you were after.

I'm glad you brought up the mapping. I recently bought a Garmin striker 4 for my kayak. I'm learning how to read maps and use them to find fish. Well the Garmin striker 4 doesn't have quick draw maps but the plus does ( too late now I already bought the 4 not the plus 🤬😡) so my question to you is what are my other options to make or get a map that isn't already made???

I might have added prepping your gear to go with your planning. On the decking mat, I found that an added benefit is that it is not as hot in the summer. Dark plastic can get really hot in the summer.

This was a good one. Though, I still haven't mastered boat position in the wind. Might need to spring for a anchor wizard. My standard anchor only works so well (takes a bit to deploy it). I would love to see a video on the top 5 track mounted accessories, top 5 tools (pliers, fish grips, line cutters etc.) that are great to have.

I've been kayak fishing almost 8yrs now. Im on my second Hobie pa12, now the 360. I go fishing at least twice a week & always have. I've never owned any electronics! I do have C-map app on my phone past year but that's it. I'm finally ready buy a graph. I'll definitely go 10" for sure. Stuck between solix 10 gn3 & mega 360 or echomap ultra with Lvs34. I have to coin ready to buy just waiting for holiday sales to see if I can save few coins... Any suggestions??

I’m not really familiar with their line up, but it’s hard to be the Mega 360 from what I’ve seen, but then again I’m not as familiar with their Live Imaging. The new Active Track that they came out with looks like the real game changer to me.

Chad in your opinion if you could only have one. What is the best made and most reliable, bullet proof kayak out there. I’m looking for a pedal style drive and just can’t decide. I was considering a hobie PA 14 but a friend of mine has had tons of problems with his.

Be proficient in the knots you tie when you're retying in a kayak. It can be frustrating when your tying a knot and getting pushed around on the water. Being quick makes it alot more manageable

Hello Chad, I am writing to you from far away in Somalia, I watched many of your very helpful videos, and I have 3.95m kayak of which I tried to launch at the beach head on to the waves, never done before and I made it to the calmer water, I am building all from new, I made the 2 wheel cart, sorry Somalia is not USA, we don't have free available Walmart super store, and I glued a keel protection with tire tube and with tire puncture repair glue temporarily, I know it is laughable, but on the hand tire tube is better than nothing, I am getting towards the heating plastic etc. My question to you is why the some people use milk crate which is perforated, i,e, not waterproofed where if kayak flips your items will get wet or lost if no lid, I seen some are solid and closing, but most of ones I seen are not protecting. My second question, considering that I am at the Gulf of Aden red sea, and fish are big, do you come across during your fishing times a large fish where the drag is immense, and do you have kayak stability problems, I am preparing myself for this eventuality, not to flip the kayak at the ocean. Finally I seen your advice on PFD, unfortunately we don't have shops with this product, so I use for now a orange life jacket, not designed for the kayak, but until I reach UK London I have to use my general life jacket, things are easy when you have amazon and Walmart close by, thanks in advance.

Chad, Curious about the chair on your kayak. I see it sits fairly high in comparison to mine (just barely above the gunnel. Is that the standard Bonafide seat or a retrofit? Seat options may also be a good video topic (if not already done and I just havent found it). Thank you

i think having ur kayak set up properly helps u be more productive...having easy access and having things where you need them to be prevent wasting time digging for stuff...which equils more casts..properly set up spo ur hooksets arnt hitting ur other rods... or having them out of the way of ur cast

The one thing that I know from my boat to the kayak is that you have to strategically know where you NEED to put in because you can't run the lake like you can a boat that is got to be the number one thing that I have a hard time with.

Are you sponsored or endorsed by Lowrance? Over past year I've contacted Lowrance, Hummingbird Garmin all multiple times. I've always heard back from hummingbird & Garmin & I've never heard anything back from Lowrance!?! Is their customer support crappy? Seems like it to me!?
@ChadHooverFishing2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sponsored by them, but I do have a relationship with them. Their customer service is in transition since they were acquired by Brunswick. That being said, for the most power your best customer service for most consumer electronics is the dealer. Not making excuses for them and like I said, I have heard that there have been some issues during their transition, but I would check with the dealer or with one of Lowrance’s tech reps via chat or email On their website. What was the issue that you needed assistance with?
@maxcole39302 жыл бұрын
@@ChadHooverFishing I didn't know they were purchased or going through a transition, are they still under navico or is that Brunswick now like you were saying?? I was trying to contact them through their website customer service/email. I just had general product questions. I did same for hummingbird & Garmin. Just trying fill gaps of anything I wasn't sure of so I made the correct purchase on my electronics & see how thier customer service was too. I have $ saved up for 10" unit, heading sensor & either live sonar or mega 360 if I go hummingbird. It's a big investment to me. Will put it on my PA12 360.ivr been kayak fishing for almost 8 yrs & this will b my first graph. I know Lowrance is about to drop new hds pro's. I'm curious to see what their going to b offering, new 3-1 transducer? I know new active target. I'll give them another shot see if I get any assistance once these new units drop

You’re a bit hard on the attack paddle. Yes, it should not be your only paddle, but it comes in handy for small maneuvers in tight spots when you only have one hand available. Otherwise agree!
@austindailey29 Жыл бұрын
Good tips, however I've always been told to not overcomplicate it and just get the boat in the water.. no matter how many fish finders and gas motors you got sometimes you aren't gonna catch s***, and someday you can't get the line in the water without a hit.
@benwilkey20602 жыл бұрын
Two things I’ve put some focus on- 1.) Find the balance between being thorough and covering water-covering water vs covering PRODUCTIVE water. 2.) Always look for the takeaway when reflecting on an outing (especially from every tournament)-what worked, what didn’t, and why. What did you do right and where can you focus your attention for improvement?
