But... do not carry it anymore. Saved my arse more than once! Hardly cannot think of anything I have not used it for! From shaving to throwing, preparing food, whittle'n, protection! As I was writing this text, I pulled it out of my desk drawer next to my bed to look @ it as I fumble with my 1 thumb texting! Still love it! Never left the house without it. Was 2nd nature! I wear it in kydex sheath as EDC neck knife and it is awesome knife. It does not look very tactical, the blade is very very small and thin, but it cuts food like no other small knife. ESEE is a survival school. Rowan is the company that makes the knives designed by the people at ESEE. 1095 is an extremely common blade steel. It is a very well rounded steel but being high carbon it is prone to rust. It dulls quicker than d2 but takes an edge much easier. It's pretty tough and is hard to break or bend out of shape.
@GregGlaeser-j4u2 ай бұрын
1095 carbon steel is been around for a while and still very good. That’s the same deal that the K bar Marine Corps knife was made of and still is to this day. Because of the high carbon content, it will hold an edge but needs to be oiled to prevent rust.

Speed and ease of access is a major reason to edc a small fixie. Got into EDC fixie's around 16 years ago or so when I almost shortened my index finger by half when I was playing with a Cold Steel Vaquero Grande. Been carrying a blade on me since 1971 when I earned my first cub scout folder. For the last 2 years I've been carrying a Creely Mako in magnacut, a weird looking little blade but my all time favorite edc knife. It has a hummingbird shaped grip that melts into your hand and a leather pocket sheath with an ulticlip that you don't even feel in your pocket. It is on the pricey side though. It does daily duty on a small ranch in the 4 corners, holds an edge forever, very slicy. I do carry an Esee Izula 2(very similar profile with a so so handle) and a Tkell Bushman as well when I'm in the fields for the more beater tasks but the Mako is always on me wherever I go. If I were new to fixies, the Esee Izula 2 and the Esee 3 would be good places to start. Very good blades, great bulletproof warranty and inexpensive. Just get the black oxide finish or the S35VN versions, I really don't like the coating on their 1095 steels, it's like heavy grit sand paper (can be removed with paint stripper and vinegar patina'd if you prefer 1095). Other than that you can't go wrong with Esee.

I usually EDC 2 knives, Victorinox w/saw, TOPs 4.0 C.U.T. The CUT is by far the most versatile knife I have ever owned. Camp/Hunt/Protection, checks all of the boxes. Fine processor, fine bush craft, excellent protection. Highly recommend.

I have several smaller fixed blades, but my EDC is the SOG Instinct G10. I wear it as an under shirt neck knife and because it is flat and light weight, I hardly know it's there. For me it's a personal defense item when out at night (no airports or concerts though!). It has great retention with the sleeve, so I'm not worried about it falling out and sticking me. For personal defense, I can get to it in 2 seconds and it's concealed in my hand until I need to use it as a force multiplier. I have used it camping for cutting cords etc, and it's a good utility blade for $40. Thanks for the great video. These look like great fixed blades to add to your collection at several price points.

I love being able to carry it outside the waistband next to my belt buckle for easy access and having it gives me peace of mind when walking back from uni classes later in the evening (my building is in a not so fantastic area). It obviously also comes in handy during the day, surprisingly often when doing any sort of lab work for my courses. I also carry it on a back pack strap when I go hiking on weekends. That Oden Wolf reminds me of the Mora Eldris with it's fat handle but more precise blade (funny that you said it too after i typed this) It looks like it would make a fantastic camping edc or hiking back up!

I have a few small fixed blades but it’s so hard to beat a good folder for EDC. I think I might have to get one of these. I was one of the lucky ones who got a great heat treat on my Walmart d2. I got it right before the hype, on a whim just seeing it in the store. It’s fantastic for what it is for the price, I’ll leave it at that. I think D2 gets a bunch of wrap from all the Chinese OEM knives that use it, it’s just everywhere. And it’s not the crucible stuff like benchmade uses. I still think for the money, it holds a decent edge.

I EDC a fixie necker every time I leave the house, and depending on what my day looks like I might wear a small fixed on my belt as well. most commonly either an Esee 3 or a TOPS Scandi trecker. if I am leaving the town area, ( I live right up against the redwoods forest area) I will carry something in the 4-6" range, most commonly my TOPS BoB, Esee PR4, or BK Nessmuk. all in all, you can't beat a fixed blade for the more intensive tasks that you run into. 1095 is a pretty tough steel, that has been used in hard use field knives for decades. most of the top field knives of the last 10+ years have been 1095. it has a good edge retention, with the flexibility that makes it less likely to break the blade if it gets torqued. it has only been in the last few years that blade steel snobs have caused it to be used less in the high end knives, but it still can be found on a lot of TOPS, Ka Bar/Becker, LT Wright, and similar knives. as well as some budget blades, such as the older Schrade field knives. Another small fixie you might want to look at is the Rainier knives "basecamp" it's sheath leaves a bit to be desired, but the knife is outstanding.

I have a textured Sabre grind Wicket and that’s been my main edc fixed blade and an Umnumzaan when I carry a folder. Nuge makes some great blades and I’d really like the textured XL at some point.

I use a fixed blade for just about everything. I do carry a Benchmade utility knife for your everyday uglies. But in a time of need, a sharp piece of solid metal is very suitable. Thanks for your review.

I typically EDC a Spyderco Cali. But I always have an Esee Izula or Mora when off work. The best thing about a fixed blade (to me) is the easy cleaning of blood & guts during deer season. I have found the use for splitting limbs and starting fires or cutting a steak. That’s usually only because I have the damn thing. Not because of a plane crash or SHTF / bugout situation.

I cut stuff. And play with the knives. I started edc fixed blades a few years ago. First one I made out of 1095 with mesquite handle. The sheathe I made out of leather, the size of my average back pocket. I'm a huge fan of EDC fixed blades

Thanks for the video. I had seen the Lookout in another video recently but for some reason it didn't really catch my attention. Until now. I'm now going to give it a better look. That sheath design looks a lot slimmer, and better overall than a lot of others in this segment. And if I don't have to purchase a new sheath, it actually makes this knife a pretty damn good deal pricewise....

Don’t get me wrong - I love the Lookout itself, but it’s that sheath that sells it for me. It’s the nicest and best you’ll find in my opinion. Thank you for watching!

What’s your take on the kizer muskrat ?
@LandmanEDC3 ай бұрын
I don’t personally have one, but I have talked to people who do have one and for $49, and they love it - and you can’t go wrong with a 3-inch fixed blade. Kizer makes good stuff.

I have always carried folders, but I have been wanting to try out a small fixed blade for a while. Just a lot of the ones I can afford come with some pretty horrible sheath options, and I haven't been able to find one that's right. Thanks for the vid, bro 🙏

A good sheath can make or break even the best knife in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

EDC fixed blade always appealed to me. There are some mighty fine folders out there, but there’s just something to be said about a fixed blade! Thank you for the ideas. I’m probably gonna look into one (or two 🤣) of these!

The big idea design looks like the best overall design. It seems well thought out. I carry my cold steel mini pendleton hunter as my edc fixed blade and use it for tasks that require a fixed blade over my folder.

Yo! I like the look (and the price!) of that Cold Steel. Thanks for sharing and for watching the video!

Currently using a Mora Classic #2 for my EDC with leather Suomea leather sheath. Does it all every day.

Folders are great, but you can’t go wrong with a small fixed blade. I recently switched to cheap Mtech fixed blade with a plastic sheath. Does the daily tasks but been looking to upgrade.

Love to carry an edc fixed blade. When carried in an accessible position it is much faster to deploy and sturdier than a folder. Pairs well with a multitool.

I have a whole bunch of diy projects around the house coming up. That little oden wolf knife would be great to keep on my for all those tasks when you need knife when you're up on a ladder or under a table or something and it would be easy to keep right in reach.

the odenwolf mini is so sick its a game changer for me, so comfortable in hand and a great multi purpose concealed knife. the sheathe and clip are perfect too, i take Odenwolf over Morakniv.

I’ve considered and purchased fixed blades but always ended up just carrying a folder. My thought was if I had to use it for self defense it would do the job. Today, I grabbed my pocket knife, flicked it open to clean my finger nails and it closed back. A small piece of lint had gotten in to the locking mechanism and kept it from locking open. If I would have needed it in a fight it would have failed me!!!
@LandmanEDCАй бұрын
Good point. Fixed blade has fewer points of failure - as in none, as it doesn’t have moving parts - so the only point of failure would be the blade itself. Or the sheath possibly.

I have never really been into fixed blades, but I got a Spartan Blades Ento when they first released them in S45 and I have been blown away. I have been in a couple situations where I didn't have tools and was able to use the Ento with a hammer and cut some sheet metal that was hanging off of my garage. My father in law looked at me like I had lost my damn mind. 😂😂. Probably some truth to that. I'm going on 3 years I think carrying it as a backup. Switched to neck carry last year. Wish I would have earlier.
