Chad I gotta tell ya....you're bloody good ...in fact there are only 2 things that I would do in addition : 1) slow down 2) use a mind map at the beginning of each lesson to put into perspective a summary of what you are about to teach

23:12 Hi, thank you so much for these videos. I was wondering why the Hydroxide concentration is not doubled. I understand why it's squared but shouldn't it also be doubled? If we did an ice chart for this, the Mg2+ would be +x and the OH- would be +2x. So why aren't we multiplying the hydroxide concentration by 2?
@ChadsPrep2 ай бұрын
Hey Aliza, the 1 Mg2+ : 2 OH- ratio from the chemical equation tells us the ratio that Mg2+ and OH- are formed when we start with one molcule of Mg(OH)2. But here our source of OH- is from NaOH so we use the concentration of NaOH only... each NaOH gives us only one OH- so we do not double it
@simplekanal433917 күн бұрын
@@ChadsPrep Hi , but why we square it then? it means we should use just concentration of OH multiplied by concentration of Mg ? Thank you for videos

at 19:32 when you're writing out the equation why did you ignore the nitrate given in the problem? How did you know to replace it with OH?
@tbji Жыл бұрын
Common Ion effect we ignore nitrate since its not on the dissociation reaction while we use Mg and OH since they are the common ions

22:40 hey chad, why is the OH concentration not doubled, like according to the balanced equation
@ChadsPrep Жыл бұрын
Hey Priyanshu, the OH- concentration is formed from the NaOH where we have the following dissociation NaOH > Na+ + OH- so [OH-] and [NaOH] are in a 1:1 ratio

@ChadsPrep2 ай бұрын
Hey Talumba, are you referring to the dilution calculation at the 25 minute mark? Here we use M1V1 = M2V2 which is derived from the Molarity = moles/Volume formula, just a quicker method and very useful to learn :)

I do not get what is the difference between last two questions? Like at the end of the day we are adding NaOH to Mg(NO3)2
@ChadsPrep2 ай бұрын
The second to last question just has a solution of Mg(OH)2 and we are finding out how much OH- is present based on the dissociation constant. The last question is taking two different solutions - Mg(NO3)2 and NaOH and mixing them together to see if a precipitate of Mg(OH)2 forms
