Hi Charlie, I want to share a personal story that may provide encouragement to all who labor to create and construct model railroads. Twelve years ago we built our house and we created a large loft space that I later built my O gauge layout using MTH locomotives with DCS control. Like fellow modelers I spent countless hours crafting the track and scenery. Last week we put the house up for sale and my wife asked me what my plan was for the railway. I decided to leave it “in situ” with the thought that perhaps someone might enjoy it. Within 48 hours we had a showing and the buyer fell in love with the trains! We received a firm offer with one caveat the trains must come with the house. We agreed to the offer and I am delighted that all of my work in the loft paid off. Many of us labor countless hours to design, create and build our layouts, your Chadwick is a perfect example. However, few of us consider the end game should we need to move house. I have no regrets, I am happy that I have handed over the railroad to a new owner. Now I am starting to think about the next one… I wanted to share this with you because perhaps it validates our craft. Best DR

As you say Charlie, there are many other quality videos on KZbin who would equally deserve an award. However, it's your method of presentation that takes you away from the rest. Your videos are interesting, informative and make any task look less complicated. The TMD kit certainly looks the part and fits in well with the rest of the building destined for the loco shed area. The steam shed doesn't look out of place at all and I'm glad you have not replaced it because it does fit the era of Chadwick. I'm looking forward to the progress you are making, particularly to the installation of surface mounted point motors. Congratulations on the award Charlie, you certainly deserve it.

I like the idea of using the old four track shed as a car repair facility. Since I like shunting I see the car repair facility as a good way to add fun operating action while your automated main lines do their thing. The old two track shed could be for maintenance of way equipment like a tamper, a leaf removal train, and so on. For me, modelling some of that specialized engineering equipment would be a nice alternative to getting more revenue equipment. Lots of ways to go, Charlie!

Well done on your prize and we’ll deserved recognition Charlie. When I worked at Laira Diesel Depot in the 1980s there was a garden shed just inside the traction maintenance shed. As the roller doors were open most of the time it was used by us staff awaiting motive power requiring ‘daily checks’ whilst being refuelled. Known as the ‘daily shed’ it was some shelter from baltic winds in winter as the roller doors were rarely shut (or working!). The HST shed had a dedicated room for such staff. I can recall checking locos outside in the snow, the engine rooms being very hot so it was quite a range of temperatures.

Congratulations on your well deserved award. 🎉 Since I stopped railway modelling about 35 years ago, I don't have much advice on this new section. My only concern would be that it looks a bit crowded. 3 sheds, extra buildings, car park, road, etc. Of course, it always looks a bit different on video, specially on a rather small screen. Also, is rather unlikely that a tunnel was dug just for the staff at this area. I guess it world be best if the road appears to go from one city to the next. Otherwise a tunnel seems a bit over the top to be used by

My only observation would be where you have the kickback point between the old and new loco sheds - how about copying St Blazey Depot in Cornwall and use the old turntable for access! First, congratulations on your award, Charlie. The competition was quite stiff, so you should be very proud. Second, a while back I purchased rolls of the Tamiya 2mm and 6mm masking tape. At the time I thought it was a bit expensive (and I was just putting on airs by getting it). But now I'm a believer. I used the 2mm to mask small diesel cab windows for painting and weathering. I used the 6mm for masking the edges of the sides and ends of a boxcar whose underframe needed to be airbrushed. The was no leakage whatsoever and I'm very happy as a result. Third, great job on the engine shed construction tutorial. Finally, once again congratulations and cheers from Wisconsin!

Award well deserved. For myself, I enjoy the friendly 'folksy' style which is a pleasing blend of entertainment and useful, instructional information and techniques. Having 'stayed the course' this now is my much anticipated fortnightly modelling 'fix', which is now approaching the best bits. Can't wait for the full reveal. In relation to the planned hillside, and with Council approval, perhaps a raised housing/village scene would work rather than a hillside rising up abruptly. I saw this type of filler recently on a neighboring channel (Everard Jctn) and it seemed to work well. Anyhow all the best, many thanks for the hard work and effort, looking forward to the future. No one deserves to be number one more than you this year in my eyes. I do watch a lot of different railway modellers on KZbin, but you definitely deserve it this year :) Congratulations! I use a fair bit of suprglue, but always end up with a half tube that I use to end up wasting. I learnt a little trick of keeping the super glue in the fridge. It seems to last for months without going off when it is kept cold. Just got to clean the nozzle so the lid doesn't stick.

Congrats Charlie. I'm so glad it wasn't decided by how many subscribers a channel has, but rather by how engaged your viewers are. Your videography of course is good and your explanations are understandable. Personally, I think the Chuckle Bros moments got you over the line 😊

Charlie, Regarding the award, it is all about you. No one else keeps us so entertained and amused while providing such a valuable service. Love the layout and the TMD looks smashing. A road tunnel? I've been trying to think of an example but I'm struggling. Surely the road would go over the obstacle rather than spend a fortune digging a tunnel. Just a thought. Bob PS Congratulations. Well deserved. Did you give a speech?
@ChadwickModelRailway2 жыл бұрын
Fortunately, there was no speech to give Bob, although I must confess I did have a few thoughts tucked away. Regarding the tunnel I’m coming around to your side of this. Regards, Charlie

Thoroughly deserved award Charlie and lovely, but typical of you to be so humble. Your videos and banter have kept me sane the past years in Oman and now in Saudi...where my building modelling progresses ahead of the day I will return to blighty, (in not to many months now), and craft my own layout (bit nervous of the electronic mind you! :) ) Well done to you Sir!
