Ronan Curtis no the moral of the story is the fights need to be set up based on rankings ALONE, and not allow anyone to dodge a certain fighter because of the style matchup or whatever else. If they lower fighters rankings for not excepting fights regardless of injuries or anything else, and set up fights based on rankings alone we would really get to see who is the best of the best.. I would love to see that fight tho just because people think askren is way better then he is. He simply just has never faced a wrester of any sort that is on his level, but regardless to weight I don’t think his style of wrestling will compete with Khabib’s style. Khabib fights on the ground Ben WRESTLES big difference. Trust me tho we will NEVER see that fight.

Ronan Curtis, yes but we will never see it for a few reasons. Askren is still contracted to another promotion, Dana hates him with a passion and most importantly, casual fans dont know anything about him. His wrestling is on another level, better than Khabibs no doubt, but his striking is worse. I want to see it only because Khabib would be out wrestled and neither would have any interest in striking, would be the most interesting fight ever.

I think alot of the whole finishing fight thing comes from fans not watching all fights and wanting to be able to judge quickly how good a fighter is. The hype of certain fighters revolve around there finishes at 185 for example adesana are costa are regarded as the best prospects but in reality their are multiple fighters in the ufc middleweight roster currently that have probably displayed a better skill set but don't get talked about as often because of a few less entertaining performances. Usman didn't get talked about till he had that knockout despite him having already beat killers. Watch out for ufc liverpool because I think two of the most underrated prospects are gonna get some recognition.

Sometimes decision victories are questionable. When you submit or ko an opponent there’s no question who one the fight, although it doesn’t always show who the better fighter was, exp. you vs Silva. And btw the pride vs ufc debate, Anderson Silva got cut from pride for losing to a guy with a losing record and a guy with the salty record of 1and 1, so please tell me how the ufc had the better fighters when their “top fighter” couldn’t even beat the worst pride had to offer

I will preface this comment with the acknowledgement that I've never fought professionally and that Chael has competed at the highest level. I definitely realize that his opinion comes from a place of expertise, as opposed to mine which comes from merely spectating. I've never disagreed more with any of Chael's videos. If he's was talking about NCAA football/Basketball rankings in the beginning then he has a complete misunderstanding of how the system works, which normally wouldn't matter but he seemingly used the NCAA ranking system as the basis for this video. I don't know anything about how the MMA rankings system so I won't speak on that aspect of this video, but I can't believe he would claim a "finished" fight isn't more valuable then a judges decision. In a finished fight we have a nearly always have a clear and undisputed victor (baring the rare exceptions with controversial TKO's) where as a judges decision is merely the consensus of three individuals that watched the match. Every "finished" fight has had one competitor beat his opponent to earn a victory, where victory is really just awarded to a competitor in every judges decision. I would really like for Chael to elaborate on this opinion so I could better understand why he feels this way, I have to believe there is some aspect that I'm missing.

What in the hell is Chael talking about. Firstly finishing your opponent was never a cringy term and it was never given resistance by the media or the fighters. Secondly it is 100% better if you finish opponents, if you knock them out or if you submit them it is a 100% better than winning a decision because there is no argument about the outcome, you taped or you went to sleep. Thirdly GSP never fell in the rankings of pound for pound best because Dana White said Anderson should be there instead, that literally never happened. Chael just pulled that directly out of his ass, the only thing I agreed with in this video is the media for MMA is behind the sport in many ways and needs to catch up.

But mate in all honesty going all 5 rounds can have more value and that's based on cardio. Finishing a fight is decisive but the decision win is often a sign of a more even fight. It's tricky, strength and pedigree of opponent matters too but this "finish him" mentality came about with the just bleed culture, which Dana actually played to.

These MMA rankings are a sham. Let's face it, wins and losses don't really matter for the rankings, because they were made on a whim by some MMA writers, not to mention that they never really mattered for matchmaking anyway, or we wouldn't have had a Bisping vs Hendo title bout in Manchester almost two years ago. Many rankings are fake too, just look at how fucked up NCAA rankings are and how they favour the big schools in College Football. Remember the debate about UCF being undefeated and not even getting a crack at the National Championship last season, or how Auburn got the shaft in the rankings vs Alabama despite winning the last Iron Bowl? NCAA Basketball is at least a bit more equal opportunity when it comes to making it to March Madness, despite the national rankings.
